"I waited a year and a half to file this review to be fair about my comments. I was at first put off by the fact that the son came over to give an estimate and he wrote about 15 words and a 16,000 dollar estimate with no description of the equipment or what all was included. He was strongly recommended by a friend so I went ahead and approved heat and air and new ductwork in my old 1954 3 bedroom house. He had an adequate crew to do the work and his father was very friendly. The work was adequate but after the job I found a lot to be desired. They left a lot of debris in the attic like old ductwork for me to remove. At every place they removed my freshly installed attic insulation to install new ducts and return duct they left all the insulation thrown about and nothing covering the areas around the ducts so I had to lowcrawl through the attic under all those ducts and reinstall all that insulation, which at my age (70 yrs old) that was no pleasure I can assure you. "The two guys that showed up were very polite and professional and had the job done in no time flat. I was amazed at how long it took. I would recommend this company to anyone who has electrical problems. The only problem is that the service charge is too much."

"Found out I needed to replace 5 ton heat pump on the 16th. I priced 13 other company's within 50 miles of my business. The price for the pump and installation was $1,OOO.OO CHEAPER PLUS the service was 1 day. They had it in stock, didn't have to order it, and I got a 5yr warranty plus 1yr labor. I couldn't ask for better price or service!!!!!"

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

When a compressor gets overheated in central air systems or heat pumps, it can still cool your home for a while until it eventually gives out. If the compressor is chronically overheated and no one addresses the root cause, it will create an incredibly expensive problem when your entire HVAC system breaks down and stops working altogether.

The decision to put your AC unit on the roof or ground depends on the climate in your area, the roof shape, accessibility, and budget. If you live in a warm climate or don’t have existing ductwork, it’s likely best to stick to a traditional AC unit that sits on the ground. However, if you lack yard space, live in a mild climate, and have easy access to the roof, your home may benefit from a rooftop AC unit.

Set your house temperature between 55 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit while on vacation, depending on the season. If it’s winter, don’t go below 55 degrees. In the summer, the best AC temperature for energy savings is no higher than 85 degrees. You can save anywhere from 10% to 15% on your energy costs by adjusting the temperature while you’re away. If you have a smart thermostat, set up vacation modes for each season. On your way home, turn off vacation mode to allow the home to warm up or cool down before you arrive.

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.
