"I waited a year and a half to file this review to be fair about my comments. I was at first put off by the fact that the son came over to give an estimate and he wrote about 15 words and a 16,000 dollar estimate with no description of the equipment or what all was included. He was strongly recommended by a friend so I went ahead and approved heat and air and new ductwork in my old 1954 3 bedroom house. He had an adequate crew to do the work and his father was very friendly. The work was adequate but after the job I found a lot to be desired. They left a lot of debris in the attic like old ductwork for me to remove. At every place they removed my freshly installed attic insulation to install new ducts and return duct they left all the insulation thrown about and nothing covering the areas around the ducts so I had to lowcrawl through the attic under all those ducts and reinstall all that insulation, which at my age (70 yrs old) that was no pleasure I can assure you. "Sooner heat and Air did some repairs on my HVAC system. The repairs had to be done, because the company that did the install did not put it to code and it had to be redone. Their prices were fair and the service and experience were top notch. I highly recommend this company for all of your HVAC needs!"

"The two guys that showed up were very polite and professional and had the job done in no time flat. I was amazed at how long it took. I would recommend this company to anyone who has electrical problems. The only problem is that the service charge is too much."

"Found out I needed to replace 5 ton heat pump on the 16th. I priced 13 other company's within 50 miles of my business. The price for the pump and installation was $1,OOO.OO CHEAPER PLUS the service was 1 day. They had it in stock, didn't have to order it, and I got a 5yr warranty plus 1yr labor. I couldn't ask for better price or service!!!!!"

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is bad or failing include a range of symptoms. The AC unit may not turn on at all, or it might struggle to start before shutting down randomly or in the middle of a cooling cycle. You might hear a humming or banging noise when it attempts to start, or the compressor might hum without the unit actually running. Other indicators include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, the blower circulating room-temperature air instead of cold air, and an unexpected increase in your energy bills.

After a while, dust, dirt, and other debris accumulates on an AC unit's coils and filters, making it less efficient and spreading allergens and other air pollutants throughout your home. Cleaning your AC unit will keep it running efficiently, minimizing future breakdowns and improving your indoor air quality.

It depends on the size of the space you’re cooling down. If you’re looking for the most affordable way to cool an entire house over a long period of time, then central air will be more cost-effective. But when it comes to cooling down a couple of rooms or one floor, a window unit may be the cheaper option, with both a lower cost to install and less energy used to run.

There are several tell-tale signs that your AC coils need cleaning, including:

  • You’re getting higher electricity bills.

  • Your home doesn’t feel as cool as it usually does.

  • Your AC unit is running longer than usual to cool your home.

  • Your home is more humid than usual.

  • The coil is covered in frost while running.

If your home has an existing forced-air heat system, you can add a central air conditioner to it. An HVAC technician can retrofit your forced-air heating system by installing an evaporator coil onto the furnace plenum, the box next to the furnace that draws in air. Once installed, the air conditioning coils use the furnace’s blower to circulate the air.
