Hank Henry came to our home and reviewed our project and asked many questions about what we wanted. He's a very competent guy and did a good job to understand our needs. He built a proposal for us a week later and I went to their showroom to review it. They are professional operation with all of the potential elements on display for you to see and select. We made our selections and had him update his proposal accordingly. The price of course did rise (there is only one direction with most pool companies so negotiate hard BEFORE you sign a contract. We reviewed proposals from 6 other pool companies and eliminated most almost immediately. It came down to three strong contenders, Riverbend, Advance and Gold Medal Pools. All three had good recommendations and made very professional proposals. The prices for the project ranged from over $100K to $65 for the stripped down version (so yes, there are big differences in price). Riverbend fell roughly in the middle and they were willing to move on price to meet where we wanted to be. Advance (Brian) Pools is a much smaller company, but very competent so would absolutely consider them in the future, but in the case they were not very competitive in terms of the product offering compared to the two larger companies. In reviewing their proposal, I would highlight following strengths: - 1/2" Rebar (much stronger than the 3/8" that most pool companies use) - Very competent in terms of equipment offering (I personally like Jandy) - Smart approach to plumbing your pool by running pipes through a single trench so they are easier to service -Design in terms of Spa - recommended a Captain's Chair (4 jet chair) in the spa, which was a great idea. -Most of the people who would work on your pool are their employees (higher accountability), but still some contractors (ask this question) -They use dry gunite, which is shot in place (stronger) -Gravel rock base instead of just sand and they build walls on own footing (not on deck) Weaknesses: -They tend to use the cheaper rocks and boulders for copping (Oklahoma River & Flagstone) instead of Arkansas, which is harder -Hank is a nice guy, but got a bit impatient with us toward the end and was ready to move on to the next customer -Design was not as good as some of the others (less creative) and they did not have the 3d modeling demo that most places use, which really helps you visualize what its going to look like. -they push Salt systems, which have more reliability issues and require more maintenance for your rocks and decking Ultimately, it was a very tough decision and I feel we would have likely been happy if we had gone with them as they are quality company. Interestingly, when we made the decision to go with their competitor I held off communicating to them for a few days in case anything went wrong (which we know can happen) and I never heard from Hank. I would have thought he would contact me to find out what I was doing, but never heard from him. Made me feel a little better about our decision though. I would have shared this feedback with him as well. Ultimately, I would say they are a quality organization and if you like their design then you could do a lot worse than working with them. A couple of tips for people building pools: -Negotiate the sewer and gas reroute into the cost of the pool (unless you are 100% sure its not going to be touched as it will) -Negotiate ANYTHING you think you want upfront as the day you sign the contract, EVERY change costs you. -Over estimate your decking as you will want more, trust me. It doesn't cost anything to reduce it later as the cost is 2X once you agree to move forward... -Review the plans in detail, THEY ALL PROMISE things that don't show up in the plan. Over-clarify and GET IT IN WRITING! They quickly "forget" what they promised to do. I have had to do a couple times already... -IT will take longer than you think, it always does...6 weeks? No way, 8-10 weeks is far more realistic if its an intricate pool. -Negotiate any landscaping repair you want UP FRONT, or you will get your yard back looking like a moonscape...they do not replace grass unless you specifically ask in the contract... -All pool companies try to get as much up front as possible, keep in mind that you want to hold back about 10% to make sure they finish the job. They will push back, but will take the work and you get piece of mind that it gets done. The sales person was very professional and knew his business. They worked with us on the date and were flexible in that they allowed us to move half one and half the next. They will give you free (used) boxes if you move with them, which will save you money and their people at the warehouse are very friendly. All of the pre-move experience was A+, the rating comes from the day 1 vs day 2 experience. Day 1: They showed up on time and ready to go with a 5 man crew. They were professional and worked quickly to load our belongings. They moved everything we asked without damaging our belongings or our home(s). They loaded until about 1:00 and then unloaded until close to 6pm. They put the boxes in the rooms as labeled and assembled beds, furniture for us. Great first day. Day 2: They showed up on time again, but with only a four man crew. The foreman was the same, but clearly he was in a hurry to get us moved and the results reflect it. They loaded up our home until about 1:00 (leaving several things behind). They came to our new house and began unloading. The first couple of hours were ok, but as the day wore on they began to get sloppy. The scratched our furniture, our hardwood floors, and walls. By about 5, they were clearly ready to go (really the foreman was, which impacted the rest of the crew). We noticed that they were starting to put boxes wherever just to get done (we had to tell them to move them and still found them all over the house later). Post move, they were very professional and have so far fixed all of the damaged furniture (they don't replace, but repair really) so you have to weigh the $500 for insurance. They have repaired the damage to our carpets (cleaned), but have not come to fix the damage to our walls yet (which is too long as our move was a month ago). I think they are basically good people, but would be very aware that the attitude of the foreman will significantly impact the quality of your move experience so to make sure you get a good one and if you sense issues, call their Rep immediately so that things get done correctly.

Previously he had successful hung a few big screen TV for me, but messed up hanging a large mirror that fell and ripped a chunk from the wall (we gave him the benefit of the doubt). He showed up on time to install our sinks. He installed two sinks in our master bathroom and in the process left all of his trash (old sinks, packaging and stuff) in a pile in the middle of our floor. We also noticed that he had installed the one sink backwards (hot on cold side). He also installed two sinks upstairs in our guest bathrooms and left similar messes up there. He installed the p-trap incorrectly on the drain and created a situation where it flooded underneath our sink (slow leak that we didn't notice right away). We made him fix the sink in the master while he was there. What made us angry (besides the mess he left us) was his attitude and the fact that he was riding the clock on us (he bills by the hour at $75 per). It took him almost 7 hrs to install four sinks, which should have taken roughly 3-4 total hours (as we learned when a professional installed some others). We didn't learn about the mistake he made in the upstairs bathroom until later when we noticed water underneath the sink. Fortunately, we caught it before it had done real damage, but could have very easily flooded the house if we were unlucky. When I raised the issue with him, he got very rude with me and told me that we rushed him. (really, 7 hrs?). i saw a side of him that I didn't appreciate and would not want around my family so took the time to share this review. He was ok at the electrical piece, but would not recommend him for anything plumbing or area where craftsmanship is important (he was sloppy). THE CONTRACTOR WAS ARROGRANT AND DIDN'T GO OUT OF HIS WAY OF FIXING THE THINGS THAT WERE SCREW UP. THERE WAS DRINKING ON THE JOB SO ALOT OF MY WALLS WERE MESS UP; OUT OF PLUMB AND I HAVE PHOTOS OF BEER CANS AND BOTTLES WHERE THE HOUSE WAS BEING BUILT AND IN THE NEW HOME GARAGE. THIS HOUSE WAS STARTED ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2012 AND TO THIS DATE THEY HAVE NOT FINISH. IN THREE WEEKS THEY HAVE WORK ON THE HOUSE FOR APPX 3 1/2 HOURS. THIS HOUSE IS NOT FANCY AND IT SHOULD OF TOOK ONLY 4-5 MONTHS TO BUILD. THE TRIM WORK DON'T FIT TO THE FLOORING, THERE IS CRACKS IN MY ROCK FIREPLACE AND AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE, MY FRONT PORCH IS SWAGGING BECAUSE THERE IS NOT THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF POST ON PORCH AS IT SHOWS ON BLUE PRINTS, THE BACK PORCH WAS NOT DONE BY BLUE PRINTS; IT WAS SUPPOSETO BE ALL BRICK AROUND WITH SCREEN ON TOP AND A DOOR ON EACH END BUT THEY WENT BRICK WITH A POST THEN BRICK THEN A POST AND WHEN I ASK THE BRICK LAYERS IF THEY DID NOT LOOK AT BLUE PRINTS THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY BLUE PRINTS AND I TOLD THEM IT WAS WRONG AND THEY SAID THE CONTRACTOR FORMER TOLD THEM TO DO IT THAT WAY. MY FRONT PORCH WAS DONE IN CEDAR AND IT WAS NOT TREATED LIKE IT SHOULD OF BEEN AND IT LOST ITS COLOR. MY EXTERNAL DOORS I WANTED WOOD BUT THE CONTRACTOR SAID IT WILL BE BETTER TO GET FIBERGLASS WITH WOOD GRAIN AND THEY CAN GEL STAIN THEM TO MATCH CEDAR AND THEY MESS THAT UP AND NOW THEY WANT TO PAINT THEM AND I TOLD THEM NO TO FIX MY DOORS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE. THEY HAVE DRAG THEIR FEET ON PUTTING IN MY ELECTRIC, PLUMBING AND ETC. ALL MY DOOR TRIM NEED REPLACING, I HAVE LIGHTS NOT IN STUDS AND HUNG CROOKED, I HAVE A CEILING FAN IN LIVING ROOM ON A 3 WAY SWITCH AND IF YOU HOLD IT DOWN THE DINING ROOM LIGHT WILL WORK AND I HAVE A SWITCH IN DINING ROOM THAT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT WORK. MY BREAKFAST BAR WAS SUPPOSE TO BE ROCK BUT THEY DID NOT TELL THE CABINET MAKERS SO THEY USE ALDER WOOD WITH BEAUTIFULL ROPE TRIM SO I LET THAT SLIDE UNTIL WHEN THE GRANTE WAS PUT ON AND TRIM UNDER MY ROPE TRIM WAS CUT INTO AND THEY DON'T WANT TO REPLACE THEM SO THEY FILL IT IN WITH WOOD FILLING WHICH LOOKS LIKE A PATCH JOB. THERE IS CRACKS IN MY BREAKFAST BAR WHERE WOOD GOES TOGETHER. THERE IS HAIR LINE CRACKS ON DRIVEWAY AND WALK WAY. THERE WAS ALOT OF LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH WORKERS AND MOSTLY WITH THE CONTRACTOR AND FORMER. I FEEL BECAUSE I'M A WOMAN AND THEY WERE MEN WHAT I SAID DIDN'T MATTER. THE ONLY ONE THAT DID ANSWER MOST OF MY TEXTS AND CALLS WAS HIS DESIGNER THAT IS THE REASON THE RECEIVE A D AND NOT A F IN RESPONSIVESS. MY RECOMMENDATION ON THIS PERSON AND HIS BUSINESS IS TO RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN BECAUSE HE WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NOT FIX ANYTHING. I'M WRITING THIS FOR I DON'T WANT THIS CONTRACTOR DO TO OTHERS THAT HE HAS DONE TO ME. HE SAID HE IS A CHRISTIAN BUT I DON'T BELIEVE HIM FOR IF YOU ARE A TRUE CHRISTIAN YOU WILL NOT DO THIS TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.
AS OF JULY 18, 2013 THE PLUMBING HAS BEEN COMPLETED. THE DESIGNER CALL THAT DAY SAID THAT I HAD TO PAID PLUMBER $200 AND I TOLD HER THAT I PAID THE CONTRACTOR $211,000 ALREADY AND HE NEEDS TO PAID HIM THAT AND SHE SAID THE PLUMBER HAS THAT RIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS HIS FOURTH TIME OUT AND I TOLD HER TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE $211,000 OF COURSE IT IRRATED ME AND SHE SAID SHE WILL HAVE THE CONTRACTOR CALL ME AND I TOLD HER TO DO THAT BUT HE NEVER DID BUT SHE TEXT ME AND SAID IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF. THEY HAVE FOR THE PAST MONTH WANT NOTHING BUT ME MAKE COMPROMISE AND I DID WHEN IT CAME TO THE TILE IN MASTER BATHROOM WHICH THE TILE I CHOOSE SHOULD OF BEEN ORDER IN DECEMBER. I REFUSE TO CHANGE MY FIBERGLASS DOOR WHEN THEY MESS THEM UP THEY WANTED TO PAINT THEM AND I TOLD THE DESIGNER THAT I WAS TOLD THAT WITH FIBERGLASS DOOR WITH THE GRAIN THEY WILL GEL STAIN THEM TO MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE WOOD BUT BECAUSE THE GEL STAIN WASN'T PUT ON CORRECTLY THEY WANTED TO PAINT THEM AND WHEN I REFUSE THEY HAD TO STRIP THEM. THE ONE PAINTER THAT STRIP THEM IS VERY KIND AND RESPECTFUL AND DID A GREAT JOB STRIPPING THEM. THE PAINTER THAT MESS THEM UP IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS NOT. I BELIEVE IF THE CONTRACTOR CAME OUT AND WALK THE HOUSE WITH ME EVERY OTHER WEEK OR WHEN A PROJECT WAS COMPLETED WE WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. THE CONTRACTOR HAD HIS DESIGNER DOING ALL THE COMMUNICATION AND IT SHOULD OF BEEN HIM FOR I SIGN MY CONTRACT WITH HIM. WHAT IS SO SAD ABOUT THIS IS I REALLY THOUGHT THE DESIGNER WAS AN ASSET TO THIS COMPANY BUT I FEEL SHE WAS THE GO BETWEEN. IT WAS THE CONTRACTOR THAT TALK ME INTO FIBERGLASS DOORS FOR I WANTED WOOD BUT HE GUARANTEED ME IT COULD BE STAIN TO LOOK LIKE WOOD. ALL I WANTED IS FOR MY HOUSE TO BE FIX TO BLUE PRINTS AND DONE PROFESSIONAL AND IN A TIMELY MATTER. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THINGS THAT SHOULD OF NEVER HAPPEN. HE REFUSE TO DO A WALK THROUGH TO SEE MY CONCERNS. HE DIDN'T FOLLOW THE PLANS ON THE FRONT AND BACK PORCH AND HE TOLD ME HE DIDN'T HAVE TO AS LONG ITS TO CODE. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR FOR HE DON'T COMMUNICATE AND FOLLOW THROUGH WITH PLANS THAT YOU PAID FOR AND HE TOOK 11 MONTHS TO BUILD A SIMPLE HOUSE THAT IS NOT FANCY AND IT'S NOT DONE TO BLUE PRINTS AND HE REFUSE TO COME AND FIX ANYTHING. I HAD 2 DIFFERENT CONTRACTORS COME OUT BECAUSE MY ROOF ABOVE MY FRONT PORCH IS WEAK AND TO COME FIND OUT THERE WAS NO BRACING PUT ABOVE PORCHES. IT WILL COST ME APPX $91,000 TO GET THIS HOUSE TO BLUE PRINTS. I HAVE THE QUOTE FROM ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. AS OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 I MOVE IN MY HOUSE BY NOVEMBER I HAD TO FIX A TOILET, IN DECEMBER 2 SHELVES FELL DOWN IN MY CLOSET THAT WAS HELD BY ONE NAIL. MY BATHROOM SINK DRAIN SLOWLY. COLD AIR COMES AROUND THE LIVING ROOM WINDOWS. FRENCH DOOR DON'T SHUT COMPLETELY, I HAVE INTERIOR DOORS THAT YOU CAN USE ONE FINGER TO OPEN IT WITHOUT USING HANDLE. JEREMY HARDOIN IS ANGRY BECAUSE I GOT A LAWYER BECAUSE HE TOOK TO LONG TO BUILD A SIMPLE HOUSE AND REFUSE TO FIX THE THINGS THAT NEEDS FIXING. HE'S CHARGING ME FOR TOILETS AND DRAINS IN THE SINKS I THOUGHT ALL HOUSES ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE THESE THINGS; HE'S CHARGING ME FOR A WHIL POOL TUB WHEN IT'S IN THE CONTRACT FOR ONE. HE RECEIVE ALL HIS MONEY OF $211, 000 AND NOW HE WANTS 33,5??.?? EXTRA BECAUSE HE'S ANGRY. HE REFUSE TO DO A FINAL WALK THROUGH HE NEVER MAIL ME A INVOICE I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE EXTRA COST UNTIL I RECEIVE A LIEN ON MY HOUSE AND MY LAWYER HAD ME GO TO THE COURT HOUSE TO GET A LIST OF WHAT HE'S TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR. I DIDN'T MAKE ANY CHANGES ON MY BLUE PRINTS BUT HE MADE CHANGES TO MY PORCHES, HE PUT A UNDER STAIR STORAGE WITH A DOOR IN MY LIVING ROOM WITHOUT MY APPROVAL AND HE'S TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR THIS. IF I WAS GOING TO PUT A STORAGE UNDER THE STAIRS I WILL OF PUT THE LIGHT SWITCH IN SIDE OF THE DOOR AND THE DOOR WILL BE PUT THROUGH THE MASTER CLOSET FOR THE DOOR IN THE LIVING ROOM TAKES AWAY MY WALL SPACE. IF ANYONE INTEREST IN HAVING THIS MAN BUILD A HOUSE PLEASE COME AND SEE MY HOUSE BEFORE YOU MAKE A FINAL DECISION BECAUSE IT WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND RIGHT AWAY. He did the mirror first (which I should have learned from) and tried to hang it on a small hook, which it tore out of our wall and almost shattered (damaged the bottom). We still have a mark in our wall from where it pulled out. He then was doing the Wine Cellar and Front Door projects together. I'll cover the wine cellar first. On the wine cellar, I provided very detailed architectural plans for how to layout the cellar and specific dimensions for the racks so that the bottles would fit. My brother is a commercial architect so had him review my take-off and he checked and tweaked so it was accurate. Chris provided a quote for me based on the drawing. Chris showed up on Day 1 to work on the cellar and struggled from the start. It was obvious he had never done anything on this scale. His attention to detail was pitiful and he laid out the racking incorrectly (too narrow so that bottles would not fit). After much discussion, he agreed that he hadn't followed the plans and guessed on a few dimensions. He adjusted the racking so that it would fit bottles, but then ended up being too wide so bottles would lay over on the sides. They were supposed to be stained wood and he simply painted them. While working on this he started working on our Stained Front Doors (custom-10' tall) that he was supposed to re-stain as they had faded over the years. He over-sanded them taking the original stain off and damaged both doors so it had to be filled with wood filler (never looked right). He didn't really know stains and had serious issues trying to get the stain to take. I went out of the country for work (with my wife overseeing the project). He couldn't get the stain to work, so he painted our front doors! My wife told him that she was not happy with either project, which had now take over 1.5 weeks to get to this point and we had closet with an unusable wine rack and a $7K custom front door that had been painted. My wife told him she was not happy with the project and he would need to make it right (especially the front door). He threatened her that she had better give him his money or he would not leave (which happened at night). She had to threaten to call the police to get him out of our house. I was not pleased remotely and forbid him to set foot on our property. I have no respect for someone who would threaten women. We have since filed against him with BBB, which upheld our claim. As a final note, we had our front stained this month (as the paint was falling off) and the person painting it asked us if we did it ourselves because it was done with indoor paint...shocker...he couldn't even get the paint right. We end up removing the wine rack and having it put in by a professional so at this point the damage is undone, but would never want someone to go through what we did with him.

Installation of the needed cabling was done fast with no damage to our existing facilities. Everything was hidden away in the walls nicely. Great internet provider for those of us out in the country and away from conventional ISPs.
