"Jim is an experienced all-around repair man who produces outstanding quality work. He has done three jobs for us: He repaired a brick retaining wall, installed new pavers in front of our gazebo, and removed and hauled away a multi-level wood deck and replaced it using new treated wood. "Company owners showed up at the agreed date and time.  They did a thorough walk around, asked what seemed to me to be the appropriate questions, and gave me an estimate on the spot.  They told me I would be contacted by their scheduler to arrange for the work crew to come do the work.  They thoroughly explained the process to be used and the precautions that would be taken to protect my property.
 A couple of days later the scheduler called to ask if their crew could come in a couple of hours since they had finished another job earlier than expected.  The crew did its work in about two hours completely to my satisfaction.  They did a good job of cleaning up the fairly small mess they had made and I am extremely satisfied with their work.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.

You will repoint over a fraction of the old mortar, but you should scrape away 1/2 to 1 inch of mortar from the joints before repointing. Otherwise, the repointing is only masking the weakened mortar instead of actually replacing it, which could put your chimney at risk of bigger, more expensive damages later on.

You can use adhesive strips to hang lights on brick—just make sure you get outdoor mounting tape and not just any old double-sided tape for your project.

When painting brick, each application method has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Spraying is significantly faster but may not penetrate deeply beyond the surface layer. Rolling is effective for working paint into the brick's texture but can be less effective on mortar joints. If you opt for a roller, choose a thick nap of at least a half-inch to ensure paint gets into all the crevices for even coverage. Using a brush is generally not recommended as it is very time-consuming and provides poor surface penetration. Ultimately, a combination of spraying followed by back-rolling is often the best strategy for a durable and even finish.
