"I was needing major repairs for my 2 overhead shop doors. Angie's List provided me with 4 companies in Wichita Falls (about 25 miles from my residence). After checking reviews, and going with the one which seemed to be the best, I chose Texhoma Door and Gate. When I called, I was told that they would get back to me early the next day, or as soon as they were available. Around 2:00 PM that same day, they called back and said they could here at 2:30 if okay with me. At 2:30, David and Kahler arrived at my place. After a thorough "triage" of my doors, and the motors on each, I was told that one motor was no longer serviceable and the other needed cleaning and a new switch. Since I was locked in, or our, without the new opener, I gave them the go-ahead and they went to work. In 2 hours, the work was done. They had replaced the one new opener, cleaned the other, replace chains, replaced wall switches on both doors, programmed the new remote, cleaned up all trash/old parts, etc., and were ready to go. They were absolutely marvelous in their work, knowledge of their job, and professional attitude toward their job. The rate was very reasonable for the job done and distance travelled. David came back 2 days later and brought me a new, universal remote for the old opener, programmed it and was on his way. If I ever need service for my overhead doors, there will only be one number to call. Thank you Texhoma Door and Gate."

While the benefits of garage door screens usually outweigh the downsides, there are some cons to installing one. First off, they can be quite expensive, especially if you’re having a professional install a retracting screen or a custom size screen. Second, they let fresh air and natural light in, but they also don’t provide the same privacy from people in the neighborhood that a solid door does. As you might guess, screens also won’t insulate your garage, so they’re often not usable in colder weather.

Choosing the best paint finish for your garage door project can be tricky. But as long as you use a primer, latex, acrylic, or oil-based paint should all work well. Many people opt for a semi-gloss or gloss finish so that the paint dries hard and stands up against humidity and regular wear and tear.

You have a few options of paint for garage doors. Acrylic paint offers excellent UV- and weatherproof resistance, easily adheres to surfaces, and dries quickly. However, it has limited color options available and requires multiple coats. Oil-based paints last long, are easy to apply, and may only need one coat, but dry slowly and emit more VOCs. Latex offers superior color reflection, available in a wide range of colors, and it’s highly forgiving. However, latex can crack and peel over time and may need a primer for even coverage.

It’s possible to use a torch to melt ice on your garage door, but we don’t recommend it. It’s very easy to bring the flame too close to the door, which can melt the weather stripping or even the garage door itself. You’ll melt ice quickly with a torch, but the damage you’re likely to cause can end up costing you a few hundred dollars to fix, which isn’t worth it. Instead, we recommend pouring hot water over the frozen area or using a less intense heat source, like a hair dryer or space heater.

Having a garage can increase the value of your home considerably, even if the garage isn't considered living space. Many people own cars and want a secure place to park their vehicles when they are home. 

If you decide to finish your garage and convert it into living space, you may affect your home's value. The livable space may increase your home's square footage, which can help its value. But, giving up the garage space may also negatively affect the sale price of your home.
