"everyone that I dealt with at Groundworks exhibited a high level of professionalism and pride in their company. Daniel Raymond presented himself as knowledgeable and confident as to what Groundworks could help me do. He was very thorough and left me with no doubt that they could fix our problem."

"If you are in need of foundation repair, I highly recommend JC Pro Foundation. I recently used them to install piers at one of my rental properties. Their service was excellent from start to finish. They arrived at the jobsite at the designated time with a large enough crew to complete installing 13 piers in one day. My tenants were very complementary of how the workers took care to cause as little disturbance to them as possible. I’ve also used them to make repairs at a property that was under contract to sell. They arranged their work schedule to accommodate our short timeframe so the property could close as scheduled. They did a GREAT job. JC Pro Foundation is the one to call; 940-703-3199 Sue Lewis Gatewood Group Realty"

"Each one of the crews did a great job. The guys that did the piers and then the crew that did the poly foam for the porch. Well done by all."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You can purchase from many brick manufacturers and distributors via their websites, where you can also get estimates based on the quantity you need. You’ll find bricks at your local home improvement stores as well, though they won’t have as much of a variety to choose from. As for antique bricks, secondary selling websites like eBay can be a great resource.

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.

Yes, you can enlarge windows in a brick house. Your masonry contractor will need to cut away exterior brick to make space for the larger window, and you may also need to consult a structural engineer to make sure the window is properly supported inside the frame of the house.

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.
