"Antonio had his crew working at my home for 4 days. They were on time and Antonio inspected their work daily. Ortiz Custom Remodeling corrected the work on all my doors from an individual I hired prior. They did an excellent job. They had to cut out my bedroom door frame to install a 32" steel door and did that in an hour. I was amazed how quickly they installed it! They sanded, kilz and painted 6 interior doors, three double closet doors and one steel door. They removed the tri fold closest doors and framed in the double closet doors. "The tile work was very well done. We had picked out the tile before work was started, but Ronnie went and picked it up. He talked about the different layouts and he answered all of our questions. We really liked the threshold design that went in the doorways when the tile pattern changed direction. There was a nice selection of granite for the countertops, and the finished installation looks very nice. He updated the shower, removing a bench and enlarging the doorway. He added tile insets to hold toiletries. Excellent attention to detail. I was "griping" about having to paint the master bathroom and closet, and he added that for a very reasonable fee. He took care of all demolition and debris, and cleaned up daily."

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

For most basement remodels, you’ll want to hire a general contractor. This is for a number of reasons, but the main two are that general contractors have dedicated teams they are comfortable with, and hiring one means you only have to deal with one pro. You may also get a better project quote since they can lump all their work and subcontracting into a single quote. 

Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness, or around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick structure, before it becomes an urgent situation. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time to have a basement inspection to determine if a repair is necessary, depending on the soil conditions and structural specifics. Walls nearing 4 inches of bowing will require significant repairs. More than 6 inches of bowing usually means the wall will need replacing.

Although it’s not required, air ventilation in a finished basement can help improve the air quality, prevent moisture and mold issues, keep musty odors away, and also maintain the air quality throughout the rest of your home. Proper ventilation will help maintain the value of your investment in finishing your basement. Try basement ventilation methods like installing vents or a dehumidifier for best results.
