"I have a commercial building that had a metal roof and it certainly left a lot to be desired. While there was a small leak that needed repairing my main issue was the lack of insulation. With the Oklahoma heat, a metal roof just makes the inside bake all Spring/Summer long. I only had a small room air conditioner that worked well but the radiant heat from the roof overpowered it and it just did not do the job. I needed to do something about it and in my research, I discovered that I could install Solar Paneling with a government rebate program and I could save about half the cost in tax refunds right away if I had my roof replace at the same time I added solar paneling. So that is what I did and because of that, I could also have air conditioning installed for the whole building. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! I got the panels from Starry Solar Systems and Elite Craftsman Construction did the roof and panel installation. They were on time, efficient, and professional in their demeanor. All the things you would expect from a business but donâ t always get. The before and after comparison is very revealing. On the hottest days, I walk in, and even without the AC turned on, the building is usually 10 to 15 degrees cooler than outside. There have been several days where my outside thermometer said 104 degrees and the inside (without AC) said 80 degrees. Amazing. On top of that, there is the solar paneling. My highest bill last year was $140 this year the highest is $62 so far and thatâ s with the AC running for the whole building! Keep in mind, I did the math, if I had no solar panels and just the metal roof running the AC my bill would have been closer to $400. So yea I am very happy, my roof looks good, it performs great, there is almost no radiant heat, my electric bill went way down and my office is livable. I cannot say enough about Starry Solar Systems. Many people equate running a business to war if that is so then I know who will win the solar panel STARRY WARS. (pun intended)"

The electrician arrive on time and was very helpful and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and walked me through what I needed to get fixed now and the things I could get fixed down the road. I needed to get some plugs changed out and update my panel. Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

In almost every case, solar panels need to be removed to replace roof shingles. In some cases, such as solar installations where the panels are on raised platforms above the roof surface, installers may be able to install new shingles without removing the solar installation. However, to get a quality roofing installation, panels need to come off. Most roofing contractors won’t remove or reinstall solar panels as part of a roofing project, so you’ll need to contact your solar provider.

Removing solar panels can be straightforward, but it’s not necessarily a simple process. Your contractor needs to prevent damage—not only to your panels but also to your roof and electrical system. Many systems are wired into the main electrical grid, and you’ll need to hire a licensed electrician to disconnect it.

Yes, you have to get on the roof to cut a hole for solar tubing. It's not possible to complete the job from inside your house by simply cutting through the ceiling. So if you want to go the DIY route, remember to use safe ladder practices. If you’re not comfortable climbing on your roof to install solar tubes, hire a pro who has the tools and expertise to do the job safely.

In most cases, solar panels are covered by homeowners insurance because they are considered a permanently attached part of the home, and you may not need additional coverage. However, it is essential to read the fine print of your specific policy to understand the extent of the coverage, as some policies might only cover certain types of damage, such as hail. Always check with your insurance provider before installing solar panels to ensure your policy provides adequate coverage for your investment.

There are a few great questions to ask a solar contractor or inspector when you speak to them. You’ll probably want to find out about the energy yield and efficiency of your array, ensuring the actual output matches the amount you calculated when installing the array in the first place. It’s also a good idea to find out about any damage or wear and tear on the array and to inquire about how soon you need to make repairs or replacements to essential components.
