"Dusty was able to clear out 3 large house sparrow nests, reinstall 2ft of flashing they ripped off, seal up 2 entry points, and add a gutter spike in less then 2 hours in 90 degree heat. The birds are ticked and it was a great experience. Thank you!"

"The technician, Bill Conner, showed up on time to address our clogged dryer vent situation.  Our builder installed the dryer vent so that it runs the entire length of our house and it had never been cleaned - our house was built in 1989!!  After removing two bird nests at the exterior vent, he was unable to access the source of the compacted lint which was buried in the dryer vent in the middle of our basement.  After crawling around with a flashlight in our basement he was finally able to locate an elbow in the vent where he removed an entire grocery bag full of compacted lint.  The equivalent of a pair of jeans had been clogged in our vent!  I'm sure our electric bill will drop now, as it won't be necessary to run our dryer so long to get our clothes dry.  I'm so happy that Bill stuck around long enough to pin down the source of our problem -- I imagine others might've given up and gone home.  I'd certainly recommend this company to others!"

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

The brown recluse has numerous predators in the wild (or close to your home). They are a valuable part of the ecosystem, too. Their predators often include birds, praying mantis, crickets, chickens, spider wasps, and more. However, the brown recluse spider is a master at hiding, making it much more difficult for predators to hunt them.

Yes, it’s possible for bats in your attic to find a way into your living spaces. Until you can properly remove the bats, the best course of action is to keep the attic doors closed and any holes sealed. Evidence suggests bats follow the airflow in your home, so they may try escaping from the attic to other parts of the house.

Natural swimming pools are designed to deter pests, including mosquitoes. While any body of water can potentially attract pests, the natural filtration system keeps the water clean and constantly moving. Mosquitoes specifically are attracted to standing water, so the continuously circulating water in a natural pool makes it an inhospitable environment for them.

Certain strong smells may help repel bats, though this is not a foolproof method and is best used in conjunction with other deterrence strategies. Scents like peppermint oil, eucalyptus, cinnamon, cloves, and mint are often suggested as natural remedies. To create a spray, you can mix two cups of warm water with half a cup of sugar and a few drops of your preferred essential oil. Apply this mixture using a spray bottle to possible entry points and throughout the affected area, such as an attic. While this home remedy is popular, evidence supporting its effectiveness is limited.

It can be difficult to know what type of animal is in your attic until you see it. But several clues can help you narrow down the suspects:

  • Sounds: Smaller animals like rats and mice make scurrying and tapping/gnawing sounds. Larger animals like raccoons and opossums make louder clambering noises. Also, note when animals are noisy: Squirrels are active during the day, while rats are busiest at night.

  • Droppings: Rats and mice leave small, rice-shaped droppings (the rat’s version is significantly larger). Bigger droppings belong to larger critters like raccoons. As long as you’re not squeamish, an image search can help you identify what you’re seeing in your attic.

When in doubt, take photos of damage or other evidence and show them to an experienced pest control pro.
