He demonstrated exceptional professionalism, extensive knowledge, and punctuality throughout the project. The quality of his work was outstanding—he not only repaired the ceiling flawlessly but also provided a high-quality paint finish, all at a very reasonable price. "George was very eager to understand my end goal and made sure I was happy every step of the way. He’s true to his word and when he knew he wasn’t going to get here at the initial time he didn’t hesitate to call and let me know. I really appreciated that! I asked for specific type of mulch and he made sure he brought what I wanted and had me look at it before putting it down. I started planting a pollinator garden and he saved the day by completing it with his beautiful edging, mulching and design. Thank you again George!"

Plaster Repair FAQs, answered by experts

Whether you can install or repair plaster yourself depends on the project's size and your comfort level with DIY projects. It's possible to handle small repairs on your own, but for larger projects like a room restoration or a full installation, it's often best to hire a local plaster professional. The final appearance, even coverage, and durability of the plaster depend heavily on proper wall preparation and application. If you are not 100% confident in your ability to achieve a professional result, letting an expert handle the job is a worthwhile investment.

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.

If you’re looking for a reliable plaster repair company, you should start by researching local companies in your area and reviewing their status with the Better Business Bureau. Next, you can contact the potential companies to ask about experience levels, get a list of references, and ask for examples of past work. If you have a textured wall, consider asking if they have examples or references for that particular texture. This method should help you narrow your search even further. You may also want to ask each company if they provide a warranty for their work.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.
