Small jobs welcome

"We had all our trees trimmed and one River Burch had a limb starting to lean towards the house. Barker Tree Service did an excellent job of trimming the trees and put a commercially made tree system on the leaning branch that doesn’t damage or drill the tree but stops the leaning. Ralph and his company is truly a professional company that does extraordinary work with extensive knowledge and care for the trees. I couldn’t be happier with the service, price or timeline in which the job was done. This company has my highest recommendation. Rick Lanthorn Thornville"

"Ryan and his crew worked very hard for two days to remove two large trees out of our front yard. They also trimmed a maple tree in our back yard that was hanging over the house. Very efficient and professional group of guys. Highly recommend Ryan's business."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees don’t usually grow back after being cut down. Some particularly robust tree species may start sending up new stems from a stump to recover, but those stems won’t become a “tree” like before. Generally, trees don’t recover from being entirely cut down, which is why it’s important to be careful when making a decision. When you cut down a tree, it’s a good idea to make plans to remove the stump, even if it’s unlikely to grow back.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Trimming a tree can take anywhere from just two hours to a full day, depending on the age of the tree, the number of trees, and the species. Young trees are generally easier to trim, as their branches are often thinner in diameter and easier to reach compared to mature trees. They also tend to be healthier. If you haven’t trimmed your trees before or it’s been a while, the process could take even longer.

While palm trees can bring aesthetic appeal to your yard, they have a couple of drawbacks. The main disadvantage is that many types require warm climates, so if you live in a cold region, you need to ensure you pick a palm that can withstand the freezing temperatures. Another downside is that maintenance can be difficult because of their height, which means you will need to pay a pro to prune the tree as needed.

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.
