"Dennis came out within an hour of my initial call. He did a terrific job replacing the leaky hot water tank. The price was reasonable and the work was done professionally. Would highly recommend Samuel's Sewer and Drain."

"I called for an estimate and AJ was able to see me the following day. He was punctual, professional, personable, knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly. I was presented with two options. One for the straight repair of the broken component, and the other included repair and sewer relining from the house to the sewer main in the street. I chose the relining option for peace of mind after obtaining an estimate from another company. One week after the initial visit my work crew arrived (Dan, Matt and Jordon). They were fantastic, always on time, conscientious, attentive to my concerns, and advised me of the progress and findings. Additional breaks in the sewer line were found from the point of the primary problem toward the main sewer line, both within the portion the I as the homeowner was responsible and the portion that the city sewer department was responsible for. This required a quick adjustment to the scope of work. Dan communicated with the main office and made sure I understood what was going on. I also received a call from one of the owners of the company (Josh) later the same evening who went into detail on the changes, and pricing that included the expanded scope. Josh was very understanding and did his best to minimize the additional cost required. I was exceedingly happy with all of my interactions with this company. And want to give AJ, Dan, Matt and Jordon a huge shout out for a great job."

"I was not real pleased with them. It started with the sewer backed up into our basement. Then we had them come out and run a camera in the system to find where the problem was. They didn’t have a definite answer for that, but they suggested we dig it up. Once they replaced it, which they seemed to have done an adequate jog replacing it; they were extremely pushy trying to sell further services. They wanted me to replace more than just from the house to the street. They wanted to go up to the house and do a lot of excavation under the foundation that really wasn’t necessary. When I looked at the camera work it showed that those areas where they were trying to get me to change, were cleaned and opened. There was no need to do the extra work and they were very pushy about trying to get me to go for the extra work."

"Mr. White did an excellent job and provided superior service beyond any of the other 2 plumbers called for this incident. The first local one didn't do anything except say they couldn't do it. "we don't have a jet.". Mr. White, however, did clear the line considerably, and before he left, we knew exactly where the issue was and if it might be an issue again, what to do! He's a excellent person foremost and an awesome plumber too! I would hire him any time I have any type of issue, even beyond his proven work here for plumbing. He is very communicative, down-to-Earth, and knowledeable. He is an exceptional craftsman and I am glad to have met him despite the circumstances! Please have him give you a quote! You won't be sorry! Thanks again, Mr. White! Happy Holidays! -SFC Mike Gordon"

"The guys from Haines Drains were very polite and professional. They and did an awesome job removing roots from my sewer line and verified their work with a camera. They then followed up with steam cleaning and chemical treatment to prevent future root growth. Would highly recommend this company!"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It can take anywhere from one month to a couple of years for tree roots to grow back in sewer lines. Tree roots can cause extreme havoc on your sewer lines, potentially cracking them and causing untreated wastewater to make its way into the groundwater. Have a landscaping pro remove trees and roots before installing your system, or call a pro to do it retroactively as soon as you can.

Regardless of the drain cleaner type you choose to use, they all work through chemical reactions that create heat. Thanks to the heat, the clogged hair begins to dissolve until it is able to be flushed away. To avoid clogs in your drain due to hair, use hair catchers and empty them out after every shower.

If the toilet is overflowing but there’s no clog, that’s a sign that the issue is deeper in the system, and plunging may not help. A blockage in your home’s plumbing, the plumbing vent, or even city sewer lines can cause toilets to overflow. The issue could also be the toilet itself if the filler float isn’t set to the correct height or if parts are damaged or worn out.

Professionals use augers, hydrojetting equipment, and cameras for precise clearing and inspection.

If you’ll be digging up your floor to get access to your pipes when putting in a sewer backflow preventer, this would also be a good time to take care of any other plumbing issues or renovations. For example, you could install additional pipes for a basement bathroom. Since the floor will be sealed over with concrete when you’re done, now’s a good time to take care of those bigger tasks.
