"Jim Thompson came and took my washer apart. He said that it needed a part that he had to order and he would come back the next day to replace it. I paid him $135.00 and he never returned to repair my washer. He hasn't returned my voicemail messages or responded to my email requesting a response. UPDATE: Provider stole the water pump. Now, I must buy another water pump + pay for another provider to repair my washer."

If you’re debating whether it’s worth repairing a damaged appliance, consider a few factors, including the appliance’s age and the cost to replace it. Large, high-value appliances are worth repairing, especially when the fixes are minor and the appliance is only a few years old. However, if the cost of repairs is more than half the price of a new item, then it may be worth replacing it. For example, if your refrigerator repair costs continue increasing and add up to more than 50% of the cost to replace it, you’re better off buying a new one.
Typically, most appliances last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, depending on the appliance, brand, and amount of use. When purchasing a new appliance or one from a previous owner, be sure to pay attention to its warranty status, including the type of coverage and any exclusions.

Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical.
