"It went absolutely perfect. This is the second time I have used this company. The renovation was a bit stressful but Dennis and his crew were mindful of our two dogs and everything went smoothly. "He came out the same day I called to give an estimate he was very friendly and professional. he had to order the parts. he kept in contact letting me know when the pats were ordered, when they came in and when he picked the siding up. We ran into some rain delay, but once again the handyman kept in contact letting me know he wouldn't be able to work that day and when he would finish the job. He accidentally hung the awning to low, but he came out that night to take it off so I could get in and out my house he came out the next day and not only fixed the awning problem but replaced the siding that had holes in from the screws. I will definitely be keeping this handyman number in my phone and will recommend him to anyone looking for a handy man

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"Ken and his employees along with his subs performed work that was of good quality.  Ken will listen to what you need done.  He understands what you are trying to accomplish and is patient with any frustrations you might have.  Ken will file the appropriate permits and plans with your city.  Ken is very polite and he will also go back and fix something that may not have turned out the way you wanted.  He was able to completely hide a cable wire behind the siding (after the siding was already done) that is now much better looking than before.  Stay patient, there might be a few delays, but Ken will come through.  His prices are very good and the materials are good quality."

"CARE sent excellent carpenters to install a mirrored closet door. They custom framed a wide opening to fit standard size sliding doors of our choosing. The work quality is excellent, and the communication was superb. We have done a LOT of work like this ourselves, and we are attentive to detail. The doors are framed solidly and they glide smoothly. Pete left a perfectly clean workplace, as well. Thank you, John, Amy, and Pete!"

Custom Home Builders FAQs, answered by experts

It usually takes around four to six months to build and install a modular home, although your timeline could go up to around eight months if there are delays in the manufacturing or permitting process. Heavy site preparation and foundation pouring can extend that timeline if you need them, as can customizations you want for your modular home. Your modular home company should be able to provide an estimate for the construction timeline before you sign any contracts or agree to any work.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

Modular homes are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and faster to build than traditional homes. They also offer customizable designs.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

In most states, you can build an in-law suite on your property as long as you follow local building codes. However, it's important that you have enough space on your property to accommodate the new structure. A functional in-law suite in your backyard will require between 300 and 800 square feet of space.
