Hi my name is Robert Blunk. I have been a carpenter for 20 years. I served a four year apprenticeship and completed trade school through Tri-C. During my time as a carpenter I have been involved in all aspects of construction, but I have always gravitated towards, and excelled in finish work. I believe in craftsmanship and architectual order. I love my work and take enormous pride in every project I do. It would be a privilege to add something to your home that you will take pride in too.

"DO NOT USE THIS GUY! Very SHADY Business practices. He charged double the original estimate on labor taking a 20k job to 30k and then did not finish and ghosted us! (10k materials. Double the labor is not ok...) He even had entire days he chose not to charge us because he kept making mistakes (of his own accord). Not to mention he can't tell white oak from red (even tho oak is in his name) and replaced a bunch of our flooring with the wrong type of wood. He also did not finish the kitchen windows... said he'd be back in a few days.. then strung us out for months til we finally had someone else call to get through to him and he told us he wasn't coming back... ....he said he "didn't make money on this job" even though he was charging us HOURLY!!!! like....idk what to even say except this was very wrong."

Retired Electrician and YMCA of USA facilities repairman. Part of the build team for Progressive campus on SOM Center Rd. I can install or fix HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, appliances and just about everything else.

"I had to move quickly, was going through a divorce and needed work done at the property to which I was moving. The most urgent item was erecting a fence for my dogs. Jeff met me at the property and we discussed a number of items I wanted done. He spoke about the big projects he's done for large corporations and assured me he could get the work done prior to my deadline. Jeff told me he needed a deposit to get started. Because I didn't want any delays, I gave him a $1,200 deposit without anything in writing. He missed every promised deadline and each time I contacted him, he turned the situation around saying he would get the work done if I stopped bothering him. I continued to contact him because nothing was getting done and he hadn't done anything to move the work forward. He was rude and extremely unprofessional. I kept on him and he finally provided me with a day he'd be out to begin erecting the fence. I couldn't be present the day he was scheduled to be out and when arrived at the property, Jeff was not there, but there were holes throughout my lawn. I called him and was told that a fence could not be erected on my property - no one would be able to install fencing because of tree roots. After he told me he couldn't proceed with the fencing, I requested that my deposit be returned. He first said he would refund the deposit. When a week passed and I received nothing from him, I contacted him again and he told me he did the work and was owed the money. Because he spent time making holes all over my property, he believed he should be paid. By the way, he left the holes throughout my lawn. Holes that created a liability for me. I continued to contact him and on one call, he indicated that he visited his lawyer and would be sending me the invoice for the money due to him, and indicated that I would receive a check for the remaining portion of the deposit. I never received any of my deposit back. Jeff is dishonest and anything but honorable. Beware."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

You can use either handles or knobs on upper cabinets—go with what you like best. Pulls can sometimes make hard-to-reach upper cabinets easier to open, which is why it’s common to see kitchens that have handles on upper cabinets and knobs on drawers and base cabinets. But it’s also common to use knobs on doors and pulls on drawers. Let your aesthetics, budget, and practical considerations about how you use your cabinets dictate your decision.

The primary reinforcement of pantry shelves comes from the 1-by-2 strips attached to the wall under the back of your shelves. You can add additional reinforcement with wooden corbels—a type of bracket—and U- and L-shaped metal brackets to link the shelving together in each junction.

Since they are so fragile, it is not usually recommended to stack anything on top of your packed lamps. If you have sturdy boxes, and what you plan to put on top of them is of a similar weight, it’s okay to stack.

When it comes to kitchen cabinets, most homeowners opt for stock cabinetry. Not only is stock cabinetry more affordable than custom or semi-custom options, but it’s also typically readily available for a quick installation. RTA cabinets are popular types of kitchen cabinets as well, but often aren’t as durable and can be difficult to build.

If your kitchen cabinets don't have screws holding them together or holding them to the wall, an adhesive is likely doing the work of keeping them in place. To remove cabinets that stay in place with adhesive, use a pry bar to loosen them from each other and the wall. Have a partner support the cabinet's weight as you work if it's a wall unit. Some wall repair may be necessary afterward.
