"Forrest Floors is very professional and skilled. We hired them for redo of our garage floor. Luke is always responsive and gave great advice. He knows the products thoroughly and is meticulous in the work. We have hired several companies over the years to epoxy our garage floors, NO ONE is better than Luke. His work is outstanding. "Jacquiez, the owner of Jhett Flooring completed a whole house install of luxury vinyl tile for a rental. For another rental, he removed the ceramic tile in the bathroom and added new luxury vinyl tile. Additionally, he added a floor transition in my master bath. He is very professional, takes the time to discuss different flooring options with the customer, and completed the project in a timely manner. I felt he was reasonably priced also. After demo of the whole house and the bathroom, he cleaned up meticulously. I would give him 6 stars if that were an option. I highly recommend him for all of your flooring needs…install and repair. You won’t be disappointed."

Epoxy Flooring questions, answered by experts

Outdoor kitchens get wet and are sometimes next to pools. To avoid accidents, go with a non-slip material like concrete, brick, or rubber. Avoid materials like ceramic and porcelain, as they are known to be quite slippery. Wood and composite flooring can be slippery if untreated, so make sure to stain or finish these materials.

If your garage floor is heavily soiled or stained, then it’s a good idea to powerwash it with a concrete cleaner before sealing. This process will remove dirt and debris to help the new sealer bond to the concrete properly, and it will also improve the look of your sealed garage floor. After power washing your floor, make sure you let the concrete dry completely before applying sealant, usually for 24 to 48 hours.

Epoxy tends to be the most durable concrete finish, holding up on garage and shop floors for years. Epoxy seals the slab's surface, will run into any cracks and crevices, and can help to level the surface, so it tends to be a durable finish for most applications. The downside to epoxy is that it can be difficult to remove once applied.

The lifespan of stained concrete can range from five years to a lifetime, depending on the type of stain used and how well it is maintained. Acid-based stains penetrate the concrete and can last 20 years or more, while water-based stains are less durable and may last around five years, especially on outdoor surfaces exposed to UV light and weather. To preserve the color and extend the life of the finish, stained concrete should be properly sealed and then resealed every three to five years. Factors like foot traffic, climate, and proper initial application also affect its longevity.

A concrete seal can protect your garage floor from water and stains as can an epoxy coating. The main difference is that epoxy is much more durable and better for heavy-duty wear and tear—it’s used in more industrial and commercial settings. If you’re just using the garage as storage for tools and your car, concrete sealer will do just fine. But if your garage doubles as a workshop for side projects and auto repair, epoxy will hold up better.
