"Ryan did a great job on our drywall repair. They arrived on time, with all materials to fix the drywall after the plumbing leak. Replaced insulation, drywall, taped and textured. I could not tell where the repair was after they were done!!! I will certainly have them back for others repairs if needed."

"Henry and his co-workers were fantastic! Henry came out ahead of time to look at the basement with us and get a good sense of what was involved. We did a little preliminary sorting and then scheduled the big clean up. On the appointed day he came in and got right to work. If it was unclear whether something should stay or go he always asked. At first it was just him while he really got the project organized and underway. Then two others joined him to carry things up and load the truck. The truck was full when they finished. Henry stayed behind to neatly stack what we were keeping and clean up. Our basement has a mildew smell so he cleaned the floor with a bleach solution and shop vac'd the cobwebs from the ceiling. (honestly, I didn't even know what color the floor was). I no longer feel that my basement is hopeless!"

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

The best way to clean central vacuum pipes is to use a maintenance sheet to dislodge clogs and wipe the inside of the pipes clean. Alternatively, a professional can clean your central vacuum pipes for you.

Common repairs for central vacuum cleaners include motor repair, electrical repair, and blocked filters. Central vacuum motor issues typically come with a burning smell and loss of suction. With these issues, you might need simple lubrication to keep it running smoothly, or for more extreme problems, you could need a motor replacement.

Electrical problems or losing suction strength, might be reasons to swap out electrical components for new ones. However, a local central vacuum repair professional can tell you the best plan of action for your system.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
