Once we signed the contract, Double N Construction hard working team began. They had built a ruffed in house with roof within 2 weeks. They are an amazing, hard working team. Would recommend this company for any building job! Thank you for our new addition to our home! Double n Construction!"

"Gary and his partner, Forest, were very pleasant to work with. Gary is very professional and can do almost any project. I was building a  kitchen in a former dining room in my 1915 house and needed to remove two windows to make room for the new cabinets. Gary and Forest removed the windows, boarded up the openings, replaced the cedar siding outside, and painted the new boards so that you couldn't tell windows had ever been there. Insulation and sheetrock were installed and taped. I did the painting to save money. They arrived when they said they would and Gary always called if there was a delay. They installed new wiring for the refrigerator, stove, microwave, two switches and 5 can lights, plus installed the cans. Adjusted the circuits in the electrical panel to accommodate the new wiring and installed under counter lighting.
In January, 2014, Gary built a beautiful corner window bench with storage for me and installed it in the kitchen, replaced old knob and tube wiring in the upstairs, added an outlet in the bathroom, removed old toilet and vanity, installed new vanity and toilet, and installed light fixture.
I consider Gary the very finest contractor I could have found. He listens to my suggestions, is very amenable to any changes, patiently answers my questions, and makes suggestions if he thinks something may not be feasible or cost effective. I already have a list of future projects waiting for Gary to handle. Anyone hiring him will be very pleased with the whole experience and his costs are very reasonable.

"Darrin was great. He arrived on time and finished the job in 2 days. He did a great job installing the doors and cleaned up after himself. He was even willing to go to Lowes to exchange a door that ended up being the wrong size."

"Brad was fantastic! I had previously had another contractor come in and estimate about 1000 in repairs. Brad indicated this was definitely not the case. He provided an estimate and then beat it by $100. He was knowledgeable, on time and friendly. Estimate was provided and he came back and finished everything in less than 3 hours. Great guy! Great service! And I will be using him again.

"RJE general construction (Jennifer and Rames) were fantastic. We needed several drywall areas finished and multiple ceiling areas re-mudded/ texturized, they did a beautiful job. The ceiling blends perfectly (I did not think this was possible!). They were very fast and efficient and left 0 mess. Great job, would def hire for future projects!"

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"    I searched over a month on Angie's list for a contractor and met with at least three contractors for an estimate and to gauge how receptive the contractors were to my needs.  I finally settled with Ventura Remodeling after a visit from Serge and Cita.  They were pleasant and understood exactly what needed to be done.  I signed a contract with them in mid-May 2010 and they told me that they were going to start soon because they had a large project coming up and they were just finishing up another.  Serge estimated that time to complete the project to be 7-10 days.  This was important since I only have 1 1/2 baths and both will be renovated.  I had also explained that I took the entire month of May off from work to be available during this remodel.     Their other project became delayed and they did not start until about June 2010.  The estimated time for completion then became "about 2 weeks" and then finally three weeks.  They did not finish the project until four weeks later on July 12, 2010.     Initially, the remodel went well.  Serge was very careful about putting plastic sheeting over the carpet and cleaned up every night as promised.  However, I noticed that his workers had used some of my personal tools to complete their tasks (i.e. wrecking bar, carpenter's square, etc) and didn't even put the items back where they found them.  During the middle of the renovation, they were inadvertently locked out of my house.  I was out of town at the time and didn't receive the messages until several hours later.  However, my neighbor also called me and said that she and two other people witnessed the tile guy and the other workers pushing up and against my garage door forcefully to the point where damage was obvious.  When I returned home, I did notice damage to my garage door and brought the issue up with Serge.  Serge asked his tile guy and the other workers if they did push on the garage door and they denied doing so.  I also pointed out the damage to the garage door panel and he said that it appeared to be old damage.    Towards the end of the remodel, I noticed damage in the kitchen ceiling which was consistent in the area where the damage was to the half bath.  It appeared that during the renovation of the upstairs bathroom, the workers punched through the corner of the kitchen ceiling.  I pointed this out to Serge and once again he stated that this was old damage.  I insisted that it was not and he patched the area up with some spackle.     At the end of the remodel, I inquired if the tiles and grout were sealed (I contacted the tile shop where the tiles were purchased and they said that sealant was a must) and Serge said that the tiles did not need to be sealed.  I did a little more research and everything that I read/heard strongly suggested that the tiles should be sealed.  I contacted Serge again and asked him if he would seal the tiles.  Serge said, "no" at first, but then later agreed to seal the tiles.  He also asked that I leave the final payment when he came back to seal the tiles.  When I came home from work, the check was gone and I could not tell if the tiles were sealed or not.     I felt that the project ended on a very bad note in that I was extremely frustrated and angry because the incidents became a "he-said-she-said" situation.  Serge even went so far to blame his partner, Cita, for some of the issues that came up (regarding timing, budget, etc.).     Overall, Serge and Cita completed the work I asked for (and even went beyond by installing a doorbell and a light fixture; they also upgraded the countertop to granite "at no fee"), but I felt that I should have had a better experience.  Looking back, I would like to say that it was worth the cost, but since they wouldn't provide an itemized statement (they charge per job, not per hour), I guess I'll never know."

Custom Home Builders FAQs, answered by experts

The most significant expense when building a barndominium is constructing the metal shell, which includes the roof, doors, and windows. Additional exterior components impacting the overall cost include metal siding and the concrete foundation.

A contractor can install your shipping container home in as little as 90 days. This is notably quick compared to a traditional home build, which can take more than a year (providing there aren’t permitting or construction delays that make the wait even longer). For the quickest installation, choose a prefab container home.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.

How long it takes to build a log cabin depends on a variety of factors, including its size and design, and whether or not you have to clear the land. Construction can take a few weeks for a prefab log cabin on an established site, but up to eight or nine months for a custom cabin on undeveloped land. In comparison, the timeline to build a house is typically four to 12 months.
