"After several quotes and researching companies online, I chose to hire Eli and his crew for my driveway project, adding onto an existing driveway. Eli was easy to work with, responded to my calls promptly, and answered all my questions thoroughly. Pricing was competitive and job was completed the next day of hiring them. Driveway looks beautiful! Would recommend!"

"This is a fantastic company. I had seen their work being done for a friend of mine and decided to give West Park Asphalt a call when we decided we were ready to have our driveway done. They were courteous and caring on the phone and made us feel like a priority. They worked with us on a price with which we could feel comfortable. We didn't like the idea of not being able to use our driveway while the asphalt was drying and asked if the work could be done while we were on vacation; they agreed without hesitation and the job was done While we were gone. They phoned me to let me know when they arrived and when they finished. When my husband and I returned home, we were incredibly pleased with the driveway. It was done exactly as we had asked and they even added asphalt to an incline up to our porch steps without charge. They cleaned up the area well, there was no splashing on the house or landscaping, and the driveway was perfect. Additionally, since we were not there while the work was being done, they were not able to receive the final check upon completion. I was without a vehicle at the time, and they were nice enough to come by and pick up the check once we were home. This is a family company that is responsible, courteous, punctual, caring, and detail oriented. We would recommend them to anyone looking to have work done on their driveway.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While the specific timeline for building a driveway can vary based on driveway length and local weather conditions, the average concrete driveway can require several days to lay down all of the different parts of the driveway. The curing process may require you to avoid using your driveway for a week following construction. Heavier vehicles should be kept off of a new concrete driveway for several weeks. Building a gravel driveway may take just one to two days in total.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

A solid driveway starts with the right asphalt mix, and for most homes, dense-graded hot mix asphalt (HMA) is the most recommended. It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Yes, using recycled asphalt millings is an eco-friendly alternative compared to concrete. Millings are reclaimed pieces of gravel that are recycled into aggregate that can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more.
