"Every aspect of this project was easily the best experience we have had with a major project and contractor. Our initial contact and project manager, Colby, was a pleasure to work with, wanted to know what we wanted, provided useful and helpful advice, did not try to steer us where we didn't want to go, was straight with us on what he could and couldn't do, and together we came up with a plan that fit our needs and budget for both roofing (already completed) and siding (materials ordered and on the horizon). For the project we had in mind we felt the price was reasonable. Anthony, the on-site project manager, was very professional and followed up quickly to clear up a couple of minor issues we noticed. The roofing crew did their job and everything was cleaned up. It was a two day job, but even after the first day the yard was cleaned up and everything neatly put away. We haven't found any nails in our yard which was important with dogs in the yard. Everything was hauled away and no trace they were here other than our beautiful new roof! We are definitely happy customers and enthusiastically recommend American Way Exteriors to others."

"I got several quotes, and after talking with Mr Chimney (John), it became apparent how knowledgeable he was. One of my co-workers had John fix his chimney after a tree fell on it years ago, and he was happy with the job they had done. Even though it was a lot of money, his quote was significantly cheaper than another replacement quote, and I went with them. Another company quoted a non replacement solution, which would have been a bad choice in my case. I signed a contract spring '17. John was having trouble matching the brick because my house is almost 40 years old. He checked with 25 companies before he found the perfect match. John was willing to jump through other hurdles, such as putting the scaffolding on stilts because of our multiple tiered flower beds that were in the way, and working around our schedule when it wouldn't be safe to work because of guests. It turned out that the chimney brick was coming off in sheets because some previous company had disposed excess concrete down the chimney, between the flue liner and brick, so there was no room for expansion, or for a place for the water to go when the chimney crown started leaking. Mr. Chimney finished the chimney, all the flashing done the right way, replaced the shingles around the chimney where they were working, cleaned up, fixed some other pre-existing issues, and the chimney looks great!"

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

You can only overlay a roof once. Any additional layers of shingles will add too much weight and may also violate building codes. Once your roof has had an overlay, you’ll need to have a full roof replacement, including a tear-off of all existing roofing materials, when it’s time for a new roof.

The roof pitch on a Cape Cod house is normally 8/12 or 10/12, meaning the roof rises 8 to 10 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. This is steeper than the now-standard 6/12 pitch, as Cape Cod homes were originally popular in northern states, where the steeper pitch helped snowfall slide readily off the roof.

Roofers don’t typically replace vent pipes themselves, but they do handle the flashing and seals around vent pipes when working on a roof. During a roof replacement or repair, roofers inspect the vent pipe flashing for damage, replace deteriorated seals, and ensure the pipe is properly integrated into the roofing system to prevent leaks. If the vent pipe itself is cracked or damaged, a plumber is usually required to replace it, while the roofer ensures the roofing components around the pipe remain watertight.

Metal roofs last for between 50 and 70 years, and asphalt roofs last for between 20 and 25 years, with some lasting as long as 30 years. In most cases, you’ll get double the life or more out of a metal roof than you would from a shingle roof, which helps make the higher cost of a metal roof more manageable.

Flat roofs are cost-effective, offer usable space, and are easy to maintain. Foam and single-ply materials provide excellent insulation and durability.
