"Very well. Tristan was professional, prompt, and polite. He understood immediately our need to have a way to get down basement stairs safely. I am 80. My husband is 84, a Vietnam veteran with Parkinson's and terrible back pain. Tristan installed grab bars at top of stairs. He also cleaned up afterward!! It's been only two days, but the bars have been a big help already. Our children, who all live in other states, are happy knowing we are safer, thanks to Home Project Relief."
Final look after install. Came out looking great!

"I recently contracted with Peak Home Renovations, LLC for bathroom renovations. I had 2 bathroom that needed updating. I was distraught when I met Mike, as I had a horrible experience with my previous contractor. Mike came to see what was done previously. He immediately put me at ease and reassured me that he could fix it and that I would be happy with the results. Well I was beyond happy with my entire experience with Mike and his team. Mike provided a detailed explanation of what needed to be done. He started the projects on time, and kept me updated as the projects progressed. His team was prompt, and stayed on task. I could not be happier. I recommend Mike and his team without hesitation. You will not be disappointed."

"I am happy with the job that was done. They did a full basement remodel. Added a full bathroom to my first floor. Put new flooring down on the first floor and turned a half bath into a closet."

"Tim's Home Improvement came out very quick for an estimate. He was So friendly, joked with us, very polite and respectful. My basement was pretty basic to start. Just concrete floor, block walls, and studs on the ceiling. We came up with a good plan together instead of just what they wanted to do. He listened to my concerns and worked through the issues I had. The Job was quick and very tidy. Even though the job took many days, they did not leave a mess at the end of every day. They cleaned up all the waste from the basement, swept the floor, and did not track construction mess through the home. I had framing, drywall, laminate flooring, a bathroom added, storage room separated, and laundry room separated. The job was very quick and progressed well from day to day. The crew was always respectful and pleasant to interact with. Overall, I am so happy I chose Tim's Home Improvement! The price was fair. The work was fast. And they were very nice and honest people. I did not feel worried they were in my home. I would recommend them to anyone."

"Durastruct remodeled my kitchen cabinets for me. They were easily the nicest group of guys to work with. They gave me exactly what I wanted and did it quickly. Scott was not only funny but very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat. They were clean and neat while they worked. By far my best experience with any type of remodeling and will hire them again when it's time to do my bathroom. You will not be disappointed with their work."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

For most basement remodels, you’ll want to hire a general contractor. This is for a number of reasons, but the main two are that general contractors have dedicated teams they are comfortable with, and hiring one means you only have to deal with one pro. You may also get a better project quote since they can lump all their work and subcontracting into a single quote.

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.

Renovation enhances functionality, increases home value, and can add new space for personal or family needs. It typically modernizes older unfinished basements for new uses.

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.
