"John came out and after looking at our deck, gave us a quote to wash and stain the deck. We felt very comfortable with him and did not want a second opinion..we said yes..He came out with worker and power washed the deck. Amazing how clean it became. We waited for weather to be dry and yesterday his crew came and stained the deck. They were very professional and the deck looks great. We would recommend Campbell Painting to anyone ."

"Logan did a great job communicating with me throughout the entire process. Our job wasn't anything major - but Logan a treated it like it was a big deal. Did a great job making repairs to our deck. Very professional. We greatly appreciated their effort and approach to our project."

"After we agreed for Charlie to perform the service as quoted, he and his crew arrived in mid-July (the rainy spring we encountered caused some schedule delays), and spent 2 full days stripping and cleaning the area. This deck was built in 2013, and was initially stained in 2014, so some TLC on the existing wood was definitely needed, and Charlie did an outstanding job bringing it back to life. After allowing for the wood to dry, they were out 3 days later to sand and stain the deck. The following day we had our son's 2nd birthday party at our house, and our friends and family were very complimentary of the work performed! If you're looking for someone who truly knows how to "rescue" a worn and weathered deck in Summit County, give Charlie a call!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

The best paver for your pool deck depends on your budget, style, and how much maintenance you’re willing to invest. Granite is one of the best low-cost pavers for pool decks. It’s very slip-resistant and durable, too, making it a top pick. Travertine is a high-quality material that resists freeze-thaw cycles, looks stunning, and won’t get hot in the summer. The only downside to travertine is that it costs more than granite.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

Your deck may look or feel fuzzy after pressure washing because the high-pressure spray tears some wood fibers as it removes the outer layer of dead and discolored wood. This fuzzy effect is a normal part of the pressure-washing process and will go away on its own in a few weeks. You can opt to spot-sand your deck if you’d like to remove it more quickly.
