"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"The working team really does not seem to know what they are doing. They work fast but only do what they are told. They do not know about skylights."

"Jim has done multiple projects for me in the Ohio area and always makes sure my customer is happy. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. The very first job I needed help on, he dropped everything to rush over to help us out. He is super great about communication throughout the job, which I appreciate tremendously!!"

"The installation was amazing. They had all 15 replaced in a little over 4 hours. One gentleman replaced and the second followed behind, cleaning up and doing inside finishing. Three came back the next day to do outside insulation and trim. The windows are fabulous. My only problem has been getting the follow-up paperwork. I'm not terribly worried (at this point) because I am relying on their reputation to follow through."

"Anchor Roofing of Ohio was one of about eight companies I called to get an estimate to replace my roof. They sent someone out within just a few days to do the estimate. They left a written estimate along with samples of the shingles. It took me several weeks to gather and analyze the estimates from the other companies, and during this time period, Anchor did not call persistently following up on the estimate. They used a very low pressure sales approach, which I appreciated. Anchor replaced the roof of one of my neighbor's house, and I admired their workmanship. As it turned out, their estimate was one of the lowest provided, so I hired them. They were able to come out and replace my roof exactly two weeks after I signed the contract. Most of the other companies wouldn't be able to do it for five to six weeks out. During this two week period, Anchor came out and covered damaged sections of my roof with a tarp, so further damage could be avoided. Anchor originally scheduled to replace my roof on Monday, June 1st, but then called and said due to good weather, they could do the job earlier on Saturday, May 30th instead. I appreciated this because, since that was my day off, it gave me the opportunity to observe their workmanship first hand. The crew arrived when they said they would, almost to the minute. The crew chief introduced himself, and immediately began working. I believe they started around 9:00 a.m. and finished about 2:00 p.m.. They did everything they promised they would do in the contract. I appreciated that they could do the whole job in one day, because I was worried it might rain if done over multiple days. They did an excellent job. Not only does the roof look aesthetically appealing, but Anchor did a great job of cleaning up after themselves too. They covered my yard and shrubs with tarps to catch debris, and then used a magnetic device to collect any nails that may have missed the tarps. I was very happy with my experience with Anchor Roofing of Ohio."

"We originally asked for a price to fix the post on the front porch and paint the exterior of our stucco house.  AC quickly gave us an online estimate of $2600 from pictures we had sent. We then arranged a time that week for him to come over and look more closely at the house.  He agreed to do the job as we requested but had some reservations about painting without doing some fix up prep work first.  He had his painters come look at the house and they expressed even greater concern and stated the paint job would not last nearly as long without replacing some rotted wood and doing extensive caulking and stucco repair which was obviously needed.  After talking with them we agreed that the prep work should be done at an additional cost of $2400.  They first worked on the post on the front porch and did a great job.  They were able to repair the post instead of replacing it which we appreciated.  They then took 2 days working on the prep work prior to painting.  They did a very thorough job and were even able to remove some extensive vine debris with no evidence of its remains after painting.  AC had recommended using Sherwin Williams for the paint but we were unable to get the color we wanted even after working with a SW dealer who honestly tried very hard to match our request.  AC agreed to use the Behr paint of the color we had chosen.  They applied an oil based exterior primer prior to applying the finished coats.  The painters were excellent.  Dither was very knowledgeable and thorough.  He and his painters worked hard and payed attention to details.  Both AC and Dither did frequent walk throughs with us and addressed all our concerns.  At the final walk through we had noticed bubbling on the concrete on the front porch. Although a primer was not recommended with the concrete paint they had used, they returned and scrapped the paint and repainted with an oil primer and another topcoat. We requested that $200 be held back on the payment until this work was completed and AC agreed without hesitation.  The painters returned to repaint within the week. We are very pleased with their work and would use them again needed."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Water will leak through a skylight if there are issues in the sealing of the skylight. Find and fix those issues yourself if possible, but it’s a good idea to contact a professional, as there could be much more water damage than you initially saw. Plus, it’s dangerous to work on a roof without the proper safety equipment and know-how.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.
