"Gregg Minor called me as soon as I requested an estimate. He showed up to give me the estimate on time. Gregg was very polite and his estimate was a very good price. Gregg scheduled the work to be done on the date that accommodated my schedule. Gregg of Northern Sky contacted me the day before the scheduled work date to confirm that it was ok for the work to be done. He showed up on time to cut my trees down. Gregg and his helper were very careful to protect my property from being damaged by making sure the trees fell into the open area. Gregg and his helper cleaned up all of the limbs and sawdust better than I expected. They did a great job I will most certainly hire them again and would recommend them to anyone that needs trees cut and/or tree damage repaired."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best tools for tree removal include a chainsaw for large trees, an ax for notching and cutting down small trees, and a wedge to help control the direction a tree falls in. A hatchet can be useful for very small trees, but won’t be effective for medium to large trees.

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

Lightning can cause massive damage, fires, and openings for other threats like bugs or fungal diseases. Barring any large fires or explosions, it’s difficult to tell how much damage a lightning strike has done until after a thorough inspection. Contact local authorities immediately if lightning strikes a tree in your yard and it causes a fire or explosion.

Leaf removal costs between $400 and $1,000 per acre on average. Nationally, the cost of leaf removal averages about $350. Cost factors for this project include lawn size, leaf removal method, tree density, location, and the time required to do the job. If your lawn removal service charges based on lawn size, you can expect to pay $0.02 to $0.10 per square foot.

Grinding down a tree helps reduce the risk of foundation damage and pests and even helps your home’s curb appeal. Stumps can also be a safety hazard. If grass grows above the stump and someone else mows your yard, they may be in for a rude awakening when they accidentally hit it.
