"Wayne was the first to respond to a request for estimating repair of my enclosed porch. The walls had deteriorated over time and one had blown in during a winter storm. He suggested that I replace the walls with an open railing porch, which was a huge cost savings. After I gave him a deposit, he came with his crew the following week and completed the tear-down and build in less than a day. I couldn't be more pleased; my neighbors and friends have commented on how nice the new porch looks, and adds to the appearance of the house and property. Wayne is quick, efficient and affordable. I would recommend him."

"An eight foot section of PVC fence was taken down buy a very large branch. He was able to repair it to like new condition. I sent him many pictures with dimensions and he was able to put it back together without having to replace it with a new panel. The fence I had was a discontinued style. He saved me money and didn't have to replace it with something that would not match. I'd recommend him to anyone.

"I reached out to Chris through Angie's list. He came out to our home shortly thereafter to assess the situation (water entering the garage). Upon inspection of the roof, Chris advised that the roof above the garage was structurally compromised and that the most appropriate solution would be to replace the compromised roof shingles. I asked Chris to also replace the section of drywall on the interior of the garage that had been damaged by the entering water. Chris provided an estimate for these services, which seemed very fair. I did a bit more research over the next few weeks before calling Chris back and engaging his services. Once I did, Chris provided a detailed explanation of the work he planned to perform and the timeline for completion. Due to inclement weather, Chris did (understandably) have to delay the roof repair services. However, as soon as the weather cleared (about a week later), Chris called to reschedule. His crew was out the next day and they were able to complete the roof work that same day. The roof looks really good. They did a great job matching it to the existing roof and it looks fantastic. The next day Chris came back out to our home to perform the drywall repair. Again, the work done was very clean and impressive. Chris and his entire team were very prompt and extremely professional during all of our interactions. My wife also shared that Chris and his team were very respectful to her and professional throughout the process. Thank you for that! We are very happy customers and very impressed with Chris and the entire TCB Interiors team. I will surely call upon Chris again in the future."

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

Common choices include pressure-treated wood, composite decking, and aluminum for durability and low maintenance.

The cost of a new dock can range from $3,000 to $30,000, depending on the extent of the project size, location, and additional features.

For example, a boat lift can range from $1,000 to $8,000. The ladder you'll need for your dock can be anywhere from $100 to $800, not including installation. In addition, the decking you'll need for your dock can cost between $15 and $30 per square foot.

Most dock builds take 1-4 weeks, depending on design, permitting, and weather conditions.

Here are a few other considerations before you build, even if you're convinced you're in compliance with the law:

  • Are you damaging the environment? Bodies of water are often delicate ecosystems, and building a dock can be destructive and disruptive to the wildlife.

  • Are you blocking access? Lots of people like to use a lake, so you need to make sure your dock doesn't block public access to the water.

  • Can you enclose the dock? Just because you can build a dock doesn't mean you can build any dock you want. Some areas don't allow enclosed docks, for example.

  • Do you need to follow any specific rules or guidelines? Check with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management for any guidelines you’ll need to follow, including size and type restrictions.

The most significant factor in knowing whether to repair or replace your dock is the extent of the damage and its age. If you have minor cracks on a few boards and the dock is less than 15 years old, it'll likely be worth repairing the damaged part. However, it's time to replace this essential water feature if you have significant damage, such as rotting wood in multiple areas, warps or cracks in the dock supports, or a damaged foundation.
