"Ed has an incredible work ethic. I appreciated his knowledge and experience when it came to thoroughly cleaning and staining a huge deck that wraps around the back of my home. When he was finished it looked like a brand new deck. I will hire Ed again and I highly recommend him."

"I was very pleased when I hired Designer Framing. A friend of mine referred Chris Westfall who is the owner. My deck was in much need of repair sagging along with rotted boards and the stairs replaced. The quote I got from others were shockingly high. If they even called me back I contacted Chris on a Friday afternoon. He responded immediately. His foreman came out to take pictures. I got a quote from Chris on Sunday that was very reasonable. His crew was on the job on Monday and completed the job. I am so thrilled with their professionalism and cleanliness, they clean the area and their price was outstanding. I called Chris back again to replace a few more boards. . This was on a Friday. His foreman showed up on Tuesday and the job was complete. I am very happy with this company and will certainly use them again."

Small jobs welcome

My name is Joel Gruber, I’ve been in the construction field for 14 years. I recently quit my job of 6 years where I started as laborer and worked my way up to a project manager. And I just wanted to give working for myself a shot. I do everything construction/handyman related. No job is to big or to small. I’m a hard worker and show up when I say I will.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

A sunroom is worth installing on a deck, both for the value and your own enjoyment. A Florida room addition costs between $10,000 and $140,000, so it’s pretty expensive. However, a quality sunroom can offer a 50% return on investment, making your home more sellable. Plus, if it’s a space you and your family enjoy relaxing in daily for years to come, it’s worth the money, time, and effort, even without the added monetary value.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.
