"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"The work went well even though it occurred during the winter.  Staff were on time, polite and cleaned up daily.  They worked in between rain and snow showers, making sure that the roof was not open to weather.  Overall, it was a good experience.  I would use this company again.

"I'm actually thinking of calling them back but I put off the roof for a while. They are very professional. They came out, they showed up on time and they were very thorough. I was very pleased with them. They were prompt. They have good reviews on Angie's List. They were very thorough as far as inspecting my roof, my attic and doing anything necessary to give me the estimate. They called me back after an hour or 2 after I called them. They had a representative that took my call and my number and then someone called and  makes an appointment. They came out on the day they said and on the time they said they'd be there so it was all good."

"Roofers arrived early in the morning, and finished early (around 4 pm). I think if they had worked more carefully, maybe they wouldn't have finished later, or taken more than one day. I came up on the roof about an hour after they started and noted that, although the contract said they would "cut the soft blisters on the roof and seal the same, where necessary", they hadn't cut blisters at the back of the roof - where the biggest problem was with blisters. I told the supervisor and he gave me a reason that they couldn't always cut through many layers to flatten blisters, but I'm not sure that is true. Roofers also laid membrane (tar-paper) on two rows at the front of the building that left wrinkles in the paper. I pointed this out 2 weeks later to a supervisor. The roof basically looks OK, besides problems listed, and it doesn't leak, but it really wasn't leaking before, except when had 8 inches of rain in one day 3 months ago."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Water will leak through a skylight if there are issues in the sealing of the skylight. Find and fix those issues yourself if possible, but it’s a good idea to contact a professional, as there could be much more water damage than you initially saw. Plus, it’s dangerous to work on a roof without the proper safety equipment and know-how.

Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.
