"As a retired contractor I can say that these guys do it right. Estimator/salesman (Jay) arrived right on time for his appointment and sent an estimate by email within about twelve hours. Calls were returned, questions answered and proposal was clear and to the point. Appointment was scheduled with no difficulty and the crew - two very tidy men - arrived a few minutes early for the installation. (Jake and a name I did not catch) The job consisted of spraying a confined attic area which contains an air handler and the box beam around the cellar foundation. This was all done cleanly and within a few of hours. Drop clothes were placed every where necessary and the floors were covered more than adequately.  When they left, other than the work they had done, I would not have known they had been here.

This was a retrofit to stop heat leakage from the attic area which contains the air handler and which was causing enormous icicles over the front entrance and cold infiltration from the cellar. This was something of an experiment to see what difference the insulation will make this winter. They have other insulation services and I will be calling them to price a couple of other projects as time and cash flow allow.  Keep in mind, spray foam is lumpy. It does not present a flat  surface when finished and no one should expect it to disappear into the background unless it is behind sheetrock. That is another kind of installation.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of cellulose insulation is 20 to 30 years, on average. That said, it’s important to start checking your insulation after year 10 to check for degradation, mold, mildew, and other potential problems. Every 10 years, you should also confirm your home’s insulation is in line with updated local building codes.

Yes, insulating your pipes can reduce plumbing noises because it dampens vibrations and reduces the transmission of sound, making your home a quieter place. So if you've ever been annoyed by the sounds of water rushing through your pipes or the clanging noises when someone turns on the faucet, insulation can help.

A plastic vapor barrier should completely cover your basement to prevent water from penetrating through the walls. This typically goes before installing insulation to prevent moisture from building up and becoming trapped on the inside of your insulation, where it can collect and lead to mold damage. Installing insulation after the vapor barrier allows for any moisture to exit the walls for better ventilation.

Hanging a thick blanket over your windows will help to keep the heat inside, but only a little. Covering the glass will also prevent the sunlight from getting in, which might actually decrease the efficiency of your window overall. If you get to the point where you’re hanging blankets over your window to keep warm, call in an expert to seal around your windows to prevent warm air from escaping. They may also recommend replacing old windows that aren’t as insulative as newer window technology. Sealing a window isn’t terribly expensive and can make a big difference.

Yes, there are government incentives available in some regions for insulating air ducts as part of energy-efficient upgrades. These incentives aim to encourage homeowners and businesses to improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. To determine whether you qualify for such incentives, check with your local utility company or government agencies. They often offer rebates, tax credits, or other financial incentives that can help offset the cost of duct insulation projects.
