"They arrived promptly. They were able to assess, quickly quote and then replace our water heater all within a couple hours of the initial call. Not only that, the job was done professionally and they even cleaned up afterward. Couldn’t ask for a better experience."

"We had banging & whistling noise from steam radiator pipes and the very old (but good) oil boiler during very cold days. He diagnosed what needed to be done. It was a serious amount of work, replacing a very old, badly corroded pipes and regular cleaning of the boiler. We could have had serious flooding if this had not been noticed and replaced it. Unlike other person's diagnosis, he knew exactly what needed to be done. It took three days to finish everything. He was very professional, experienced and very thorough and we are so relieved to have oil boiler /steam radiator running smoothly. Keeping an old house is an on-going job and it was so nice to have someone work very professionally. He offered warranty as well, so we know he is there for us should there be any issues. Recommend him highly!"

"I had a major plumbing issue in my House. The main waste pipe that connects my shower, toilet, sink and kitchen Broke. It was a 4 inch cast iron pipe that was about 14 feet long. It was accessible by a crawl space under my house. So, I started to call (several) local Plumbing companies. The plumbers who showed up, looked at everything. Then told me I had to rip up my kitchen and Livingroom floor to fix the pipe. (None of the Plumbers wanted to use the crawl space.) One local plumber wanted 200 dollars up front just to show up. Every Plumber gave me very expensive estimates for the work. When I accepted the work offer by one very well known company. The 2 men who showed up refused to do the work then left. It was almost 2 weeks and still no running water at my house. I went to the Home Advisor web site after hearing a radio commercial and searched for Plumbers who specialized in drainage issues. I called the first number that popped up. Joe from JSP Sewer & Drain Cleaning answered. I told him what was going on. He showed up that afternoon to take a look. Joe replaced the pipe the next day! No floors were ripped up. I have his number on speed dial on my cell phone and will recommend him to anyone who has a plumbing issue If you have Plumbing issue at your house! Leave nothing to chance. Call JSP Sewer & Drain Cleaning."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It is generally safe to stay in a house that smells like sewage for a short time, but you should get the problem fixed as soon as possible. While the level of sewer gas is usually low enough to only cause minor symptoms, prolonged inhalation can lead to headaches, nausea, or respiratory irritation. High levels of gas exposure can be more dangerous, and high concentrations of methane—a component of sewer gas—can pose an explosion risk in enclosed spaces. If you smell sewer gas in your home, ventilate the area and call a professional to locate, assess, and fix the problem, as it will not go away on its own.

An active cleaning agent and a drain snake is the best way to clean a main sewer line. You can purchase a regular or enzyme drain cleaner or make a DIY drain cleaner with baking soda. Use your chosen solution at least once a month or as needed to keep your sewer line clear.

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.

It’ll take 20 to 30 minutes to unclog a sewer line using a drain snake or drain cleaner. If you hire a professional, you should expect them to be on-site for three hours or less. In addition to clearing the clog, they’ll do other routine inspections, which adds to the overall time (and cost) required.

If your drain doesn’t have metal crosshairs or crossbars, you should use a tub drain extractor. These tools create a grip on the drain so you can turn it using a 1/2-inch ratchet drive, drain key, or wrench. Your drain may not have crosshairs if it's old and broken.
