"I called Steve the Handy Hubby on a Thursday with a somewhat of an emergency. The entry deck to the side entance of my rental home had rotted wood and needed repair pretty quick for safety reasons. Steve came and looked at it the same day, gave me an excellent price and came back the next day to do the job. Couldn't ask for anything more. Great experience!"

"So far it is going very well.  He called from the expressway to tell me he was 4 minutes away. He arrived ON TIME.  Got right to his work with his workers even tho he was a little incapacitated with a strained arm.  His workers went up on the roof and HE surveyed the newly replaced roof that caused all the stains that he was called to repair. Making sure no more water would enter before repairing damage.
The original contractor Superior Home Improvements failed  their contract in replacing  the old roof and installing new roof successfully.  NEVER CALL FOR THEIR SERVICES. LIARS, CHEATS, UNRELIABLE UNINSURED AND unreachable.
Mr Brian Brill of Pride Painting and Spackling has  just that, PRIDE. !!.  I would and  will call him again for any other work needed here in our business.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

Both aluminum and composite decking materials are environmentally friendly, with aluminum decking coming in as the most eco-friendly option.

Though composite decking helps remove plastics from landfills, recycles wood, and lasts longer than traditional wood decks, it’s not recyclable and only lasts for 25 to 30 years on average. Aluminum can last well over 30 years and is almost always recyclable.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation or substructure for support. This base is typically a frame composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame can be built from various materials, such as composite, plastic, timber, or metal, depending on your budget, deck type, and environmental conditions. For maximum stability, a professional deck builder may recommend installing this frame on top of a solid concrete base. It is best to discuss the most suitable substructure design and materials for your specific project with a professional.
