He had a guy there the next morning and finished the job in no time at all! Extremely professional, punctual, and just great to work with. After a little miscommunication on my part (I forgot to tell him about one small side of the dormer) he was extremely respectful and came back the next morning and finished it within 20 min. As with any exterior paint job, the average lifespan for painted brick is between 10 and 12 years. Your freshly coated bricks will have the longest lifespan with regular maintenance and cleaning. Keeping up with cleaning off dirt and mold will go a long way toward ensuring that your paint lives up to the manufacturer's specifications.

The typical paint job includes all necessary prep work, one or more coats of paint as specified by the contract, and cleanup. The total price quoted will account for labor, materials, and tax. Your painter should also conduct a home assessment to provide an accurate quote, a painting schedule, and a walkthrough once the job is complete.

In many cases, you can sleep in a room painted with low-VOC paint on the same day you painted it. You’ll want to give it at least 10 hours to allow any lingering chemicals to dissipate. However, it can still have an odor for about a day after painting, so you may want to add extra ventilation or adjust your sleeping arrangements if you’re particularly sensitive. 

No-VOC paint is generally odorless and won’t emit toxic chemicals, so it’s even safer and more comfortable to sleep near after a fresh paint job.

It’s best to remove wallpaper rather than paint over it. You should only paint over wallpaper if removing it would damage the wall, the surface is relatively smooth, or there are minimal problem areas—such as slight peeling and lifted seams—that you can fix easily. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it can create more problems if the wallpaper is in poor condition and you don’t properly prep the area for painting. Depending on the state of the wallpaper, color, and textures could show through, and moisture from the paint could loosen the adhesive, causing unsightly bubbling.

In most cases, paint primer is necessary before painting over wood paneling. A hardy primer formula covers up stains and leaves a grippy surface for the new paint to hold onto. If you don’t use a primer first, you risk poor adhesion, visible blemishes, and a paint top coat that could flake away later. 

There are two primer choices: oil-based or latex-based. Choose an oil-based primer for durability and adhesion, but prepare for extra dry time and more VOC (volatile organic compounds) fumes. Or, pick a stain-blocking latex primer. They’re easy to apply, clean up, and affordable.
