"We’ve used Yerdon Construction for several projects because each was completed on budget and the work was excellent. This includes a new roof, stairs to our waterfront and from the driveway to our front entrance, new toilets, a fire pit, horse shoe pit, and a double tier deck (which is a showcase quality deck). I will use them for my next project and highly recommend them."

"Joe has been very professional and we are very happy with work so far. Weather stopped us short of finishing in fall, so looking forward to seeing everything complete. I have a relative who is a retired professional painter. He gave me a list of questions to ask. Joe answers were all what I was told to expect from a quality painter. We would use Joe again for projects or painting."

"quoted me fairly and got the work done within the quote he had originally provided. I was selling my home and he was able to paint the interior, remodel and clean most of the upstairs apartment and took care of many other items i needed. The work was finished to my expectations at a more than fair price. Hard working and reliable I would for sure hire again and recommend."

"They are very personable. They care very much about how your job will turn out. When I asked for an estimete, they gave about half the price of one from the compitition, which they knew nothing of. I have since hired them again and plan to call them soon for more jobs. They also kept in close contact with me for scheduling and were on the job when agreed. They do a great job!."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.
