"Margaret made custom curtains for 2 bedrooms, custom shades for the same 2 bedrooms, & custom shades for 2 large picture windows (living room & dining room). Margaret installed all of these shades & curtains. Her prices are better than her competitors. I like her fabrics better than her competitor. Her work is impeccable. (She is more of a perfectionist than I am.) She is reliable, honest, timely, & pleasant."
"Cory is great and a reliable worker. We have a bathroom that needed some update and he installed the floor, a new window, new toilet, new vanity light, new sink top and hardware, and painted the sink vanity. At the end of the project there were a few finishing details that needed some adjustments which they came back to do it. We are happy with the end result of our bathroom and would recommend his service."
"Made an appt. with Castle Rep, James, for 17 windows and vinyl siding. He spent 1 hour talking about how great his company and windows are before finally getting down to the issue. We were told that CASTLE makes and services their own window, with all the best technology and technicians available. The price per window for energy efficient came out to over $1,200 per double-hung window! And since they make their own products, we could not find a way to compare quality and price with other manufacturers. But his per-window price exceeds the average price of $500-700 by A LOT! When we balked, he made a call to his "manager" to see if we qualified for a "special promotional" discount. If we were to commit right there on the spot, we would get an additional 10% off! Still way to high. We said we would think about it (he got sad and snippy), and that we wanted to hear about the vinyl siding quote before we made any decisions. He told us he could not give us a siding quote until his company did an "eagle view" measurement, which would require another appointment! We had no intention of sitting through ANOTHER high-pressure appointment. High pressure, long-drawn out presentation and he would not leave us with anything in writing! No brochures, prices, nothing! He refused to put anything in writing and we could not have a break down of labor and costs. I even asked him if I could have a copyhh of the window warranty and he said "only if you purchase right now." And they did not come prepared with references or previous job locations! When we further researched the company, we found they did make very excellent products, but the #1 complaint was by far that they did not honor their lifetime warranty and that customer service was horrible. In the end, we chose not to do business.."
"It went extremely well. Luna Roofing and Siding is a very good company and does excellent work. They are very clean and professional. I highly recommend."
"I just had windows install by these guys and let me tell you I'm glad I did, the service was great and so is the quality of the products we ordered. We are loving our new windows and although we were told it could take 6 to 8 weeks before we could be contacted for the install it only took 3 weeks from the date of order. Bruce the sales man is a great guy with a lot of window service experience. Robert the installation manager was very helpful. Giovanni and the installation crew did a phenomenal, tight, neat and efficiently quick install. I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying experience. Thank you all!! Nick and Lisa"
"Very well, once the contract was signed. There were some initial communications issues but it all turned out well in the end. I will happily re-evaluate this company next Sprin after we re-open the house for the summer... and find no evidence of the previous leak. "
Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.
The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.
Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.
Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.
