"We first had a virtual call to determine the type of whole house humidifier I would need. We were then given a quote via email. And then one of their professionals came to the house to install it, exactly when they said they would. Everything was very easy and smooth."

"Hello home advisor surfers; I can attest that the owner Pat is heads up on fixin' furnaces and thermostats, I had trouble with my furnace; it was not acting like it used to, it wasn't "Billowing" up long enough to create heat and it ran an awful lot, blowing not so hot air. I was also havin' trouble with my ancient thermostat. Pat came out and addressed my furnace problems and concerns ( he figured it out) He showed me what was wrong! We then made a plan to FIX things; Pat ordered the parts right there on his business phone. We scheduled a future appointment whereas Pat could come back out (1 hour drive). Pat courteously checked in via the phone a couple of times the day of the 2nd appointment, to update his arrival time (workin' on a hot water tank job before me) Pat arrived on time and had a really nice set-up (truck & smaller job style trailer) Pat had the "right stuff" with him and diligently worked on R & R my limit switches on the furnace & R & R my existing thermostat and installed a new programable thermostat. Pat went through my heating system with me, and showed me their proper functions and their proper performances My systems is now performing like it used to with a little bit of an upgrade with that new stat'. I am goin' to have Long Heating & Air Conditioning, (next spring)' install an AC system that will tap into my existin' duct work. Pat is a Very Smart Person! I Definitely recommend hiring Pat & his team at Long Heating & Air Conditioning! Happily Warm and Satisfied, Thanks Pat David Steggs"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, HVAC zoning is generally considered worth the investment by both experts and homeowners. Zoned systems offer significant benefits in convenience, efficiency, and comfort by allowing you to set different temperatures for various rooms or 'zones' in your house. This ability to heat and cool only the spaces you're using leads to energy savings and lower utility bills. Zoned systems are especially effective in multi-level homes that experience temperature fluctuations, but even smaller homes can benefit from the ability to adjust temperatures more quickly. While the up-front installation cost can be high, many find it's a worthwhile long-term investment, particularly for those who plan to stay in their home for a while.

Yes, the furnace and AC use the same blower. The blower is located in the base of the furnace and pushes hot air out of the furnace and into the ducts. It also pushes cool air through the home when the air conditioning is on. Even though the furnace and air conditioning work independently of one another, the blower is an essential component for both systems.

Traditional central air conditioning systems require ductwork to circulate air throughout the home. Alternatively, you can add air conditioning with a mini-split ductless air conditioning system, which can be just as energy efficient as a central air conditioner. This type of system consists of two units–an outside unit that holds the compressor and condenser and an indoor unit that holds an air-handler. With multi-zone ductless systems, there are multiple indoor air handlers tied to a single outdoor compressor/condenser, allowing the system to cool multiple rooms.

No, not all HVAC systems have a fresh air intake, but there are many advantages to having one. For example, a fresh air intake can boost the air quality inside your home and help your furnace run more effectively. Plus, it can make your house more energy efficient, possibly saving you money on your utility costs.

A calculation method that your HVAC contractor will use to ensure your system does what it's supposed to is measuring duct output, or its CFM. The calculation requires knowing the cross-sectional area of the ductwork and determining the air speed past any given point within it.
