"Murphy's Law said that as soon as I stacked the boxes of my wife's old but favorite art books, something would happen. I even asked her if we ever had more than a standing inch of water in the basement. That night, a discovered a growing puddle around the water heater, that was running down the side of the tank from a pool at the top. I called a local plumber who we had used before (and even texted photos of the water heater to them), but after two days of no call back even though I left a second message, I called Green Air Solutions. Jeff called me back immediately, and despite that it was dinner time, and I told him it wasn't a dire emergency), he was over at my house within a half hour. What I liked best was that he took time to figure out the problem and explain it to me. The previous owners had put in two water heaters (I assumed to fill the large jacuzzi upstairs), but only one was being used. Fortunately, we had a backup already in place, but it made for interesting puzzle. Jeff seemed to enjoy figuring it out, worked fast, and had it removed and the other one up and running in an hour. When I first realized that the heater was shot, I expected an expensive job. It was not. That's how a service vendor builds trust and clients. The other plumbing company? They still haven't called me back. Thanks Jeff!"

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.

No. Evaporator coils are designed to work with specific refrigerant types, and they are rated by what kinds of refrigerant they use. It’s indicated with an “R” code. It’s important to match your evaporator coil and refrigerant or your system will not work properly. An AC technician can tell you what type of refrigerant your system needs and what evaporator coils will work with it.

No, it’s not normal for AC vents to drip condensation. A sweating AC vent is a sign of something wrong and can lead to issues like air duct rust or mold growth. Your HVAC unit might not be working efficiently because of a dirty filter or clogged ducts. Alternatively, your ductwork might not have adequate insulation, which allows the cool air in the ducts to meet the humid air outside, causing condensation.

Replacing an HVAC system does not always include new ductwork. The decision depends on the condition of your existing ducts. If they are in good shape, correctly sized for the new unit, and meet current standards, they can often be reused. However, if the ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or improperly sized, they will likely need to be replaced or upgraded to ensure the new system operates efficiently. An HVAC contractor will assess your ductwork and recommend the best course of action. Typically, ductwork is purchased separately, and a full replacement will add to the overall project cost.

Look up your model number online to find additional information. Usually, you can just take a look at the old filter and find the brand name and dimensions to order a new one. When replacing the filter, always check that it’s pointed the right way to match the direction of your airflow. Many filters have arrows on them to help with this step.
