"The entire team was so professional, efficient, and super responsive to every need we had. They prioritized my needs and completely sanded, patched, and repainted my deck in two days and it looks fantastic. It’s evident they can do much more complicated work and I’ll be hiring them again. Could not recommend more."

"A++++++ Angelo and his crew member were the best professionals I have hired to date. Let me just say, it’s refreshing in this day and age to get what you pay for, plus. I received a prompt response and estimate for services. Everything was explained. Angelo was able to give me an estimate via email by viewing my residence on Google Earth for dimensions, approximate size of project. It was a quick, prompt process. I booked an appointment. I have never, ever had such honest, professional service. I am not being over-dramatic. I highly recommend this company. They confirmed my appointment a few days before. They even sent me pictures of their employees who would be coming to my home, along with background checks and their company’s licensing and insurance information. Then, let me just say, they went above and beyond. They arrived promptly as promised, shook my hand while introducing themselves, helped me move my patio umbrella and replace it back onto deck afterwards. They worked in pouring rain at my home for two and a half hours. If you are a single lady, a widow, a hard-working homeowner who wants a trustworthy, honest, diligent business to hire, please consider Preferred Choice. I simply cannot say enough without sounding like I’m gushing. I’m truly happy I chose this company and I will utilize their services again without hesitation."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

The “best” material is in the eye of the beholder, as each common decking material boasts its pros and cons. Poured concrete is the best budget-friendly option, but composite wood brings high-grade aesthetics without breaking the bank. Wood is the most traditional material, but it requires more maintenance than some other materials. In other words, do your research before settling on a deck material to find the one that’s best for your pool.

In most cases, your deck will need some form of deck footing to hold it in place, preventing moisture from rotting your wood and decreasing your deck’s lifespan. Concrete deck blocks are the most common type of footing for floating decks. Some homeowners use ground-level deck footings. For added security, consider digging and laying your ground-level footings below ground.
