Small jobs welcome

"Matthew was personable and polite. He showed me where I was losing heat in my house and answered all of my questions honestly and thoroughly. At this time, I will not be electing to add insulation, in favor of an easier solution, and I am very appreciative that he didn’t try to sway me otherwise. If/when I elect to add insulation, I will definitely be contacting Matthew!"

"Rob and his team were amazing to work with - they removed all of our old insulation in the attic and installed spray foam. They were affordable, punctual, with good communication throughout the project, and they took care to minimize the impact of the project on us and tidied up at the end of each day and the end of the project. I would highly recommend them!"

"Everything was done nicely. Jimmy was very responsive. His crew is very professional. His price was competitive with other roofers we quoted. They told us when they will start the work. They started when they told us. Work quality was excellent. Crew made sure to clean everything when they left.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Insulation is professionally installed by measuring spaces, cutting materials to fit correctly, and placing them without gaps for optimal thermal resistance.

The amount and type of insulation your home needs depends on your location, climate, and the specific installation area (attic, walls, or floors). Your local building code will typically determine the minimum required R-value. For specific recommendations, Energy Star suggests the following R-values: homes in the Southern U.S. should have R30 to R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in floors and walls; homes in moderate climates need R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.

Mineral wool wraps are the most affordable and effective insulation for crawl space ducts. They are easy to cut, last for a long time, and healthier for humans. Meanwhile, fiberglass wraps are cheaper but more hazardous and difficult to handle. If you do choose to use a fiberglass wrap, make sure you are wearing long sleeves and wear proper protective gear.

Chimney liners often benefit from insulation, though it is not always required. Insulation helps improve the liner's efficiency by keeping flue gasses hotter, which enhances draft and reduces creosote buildup. It also prevents condensation, which can lead to corrosion. Insulation is important for chimneys on exterior walls or in colder climates. Some building codes may require insulation, so checking local regulations is essential.
