"Work was completed with a bit of a delay due to lack of crew members. We initially were told, when contract was signed, that a crew of 5 or 6 guys would come and complete in one day. Work took two days due to crew reduction because of the pandemic. Workers that were assigned were efficient, worked a long first day to complete as much as they could and did impeccable clean up of the grounds and yard. There was a bit of a discrepancy about the work that needed to be done where the lower roof of the garage meets the house and siding but after some discussion the guys came back and put some finishing touches on it to improve the overall look and seal the area where the siding meets the lower garage roof. Overall we are very pleased with the workmanship and new roof on this older home."

"This was the most satisfied I have ever been with a contractor! Ed was very pleasant to deal with. He kept me informed. When he said he would be back in an hour, he was back in an hour. His crew came in and did some terrific roofing work for me on one day. The price was excellent. I would recommend them to anyone, intact, I already have. I will be calling Ed again soon for bids on some other work."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Architectural shingles and impact-resistant shingles aren’t mutually exclusive, which means some architectural shingles are impact-resistant shingles. Architectural shingles are thicker and more durable than standard 3-tab shingles, and they become even stronger when they also have high impact resistance and wind resistance ratings. The most durable shingles for areas with extreme weather are architectural or luxury shingles that have a Class-4 impact resistance and a Class-H wind resistance that can stand up to winds reaching 150 mph.

If a home isn’t properly winterized, the pipes can freeze and burst, causing flooding and massive property damage. It can also leave your house susceptible to pests, which can infest it and cause significant damage. Winterizing a home can prevent many potential issues and save you money on costly repairs.

The easiest way to tell if your roof vent boot is leaking is to look in your attic for signs of water damage. You might see visible moisture, water spots, or mold on the roof decking around the roof vent or damaged or soggy insulation below it. If you don’t have access to your attic or aren’t sure if the vent boot is the issue, hire a professional to come inspect your roof and figure out the underlying issue.

Tar and gravel roofs last an average of 30 years, which is longer than the average lifespan of many other flat roofs. The gravel on top of the waterproof membrane helps protect the roof from UV damage and physical damage, so if you keep your roof drains clear and carry out annual roof inspections to catch issues early, you could see up to 40 years of useful life from your roof.

Fall is widely considered the best time of year to replace a roof. The moderate temperatures are ideal for roofing crews to work and for new shingles to seal properly. Additionally, autumn weather is often drier, reducing the risk of weather-related delays compared to the rainier spring season.

While spring is also a viable option, the higher chance of rainfall can slow down the project. The main drawback to a fall installation is that it's the peak season for roofers, which can lead to higher prices and scheduling challenges.

To potentially save money, you could consider scheduling your roof replacement during the summer or winter off-seasons. However, both seasons have significant disadvantages. Extreme summer heat can make shingles too soft to handle, while winter's cold, snow, and ice can create dangerous working conditions and prevent shingles from sealing correctly, as they typically require temperatures above 40-45°F.
