"Anthony was great!  He and his crew were very cordial, very professional, and provided a thorough report on our home's energy efficiency.  Furthermore, he was very flexible with the billing, and his crew didn't leave a mess.  Thanks to them, our house is much warmer."

"This was the second time I hired zavza seal. This time I needed help with attic insulation for my parents house. Starting with setting up the free appointment, ending with the crew and quality of the work - they deliver a great experience and I highly recommend them for anything waterproofing, insulation, concrete and foundation fixes. If you are looking for a contractor and donâ t know who is trustworthy and professional, go with Zavzaseal, you ll be in a very good hands."

"The type of work I needed done was literally beyond over 12 other companies I had to my home for an estimate. Some very popular companies (which are supposedly experts) at cleaning up the situation I had in my basement. The situation: Foam Insulation that was sprayed in all the Wellâ s / Between All Jointâ s through out the entire basement of a 3 Bd Rm Ranch. The Foam HAD to be removed due to Termites. All Exterminatorâ s stated the Termiteâ s could not be treat until the Foam was removed. To my complete surprise and obvious delight that they took the job was beyond wordâ s. Some very (as they stated) were the best â ¦ yet some actual stated; â Ummm -,I never seen this nor been ask to remove it.â One company wanted $250 for the first hour and $150 for each additional hour - with a quote of taking 3 dayâ s to complete the job. The estimate for the job never exceeded more than 1 day -,there was no surprise or statementâ s that it was an impossible job to do. They arrived on time - - took 2 / 10 minute breaks and completed everything within only several hours. I was absolutely amazed and thrilled. Professional and completely committed to finish the work. I absolutely recommend if your in need of anything foam insulation. Even removal. Iâ m extremely happy with the work and the professionalism. An absolutely top rated company and recommended if you need anything foam insulation related you to look no further. Thank you so very much for all the work you did! ."

"We have a building and it is so old that it never had insulation in the walls. The winters were very uncomfortable because of the cold that would come thru the walls. Sound from the apartment above carried like the person above was right next to you. I called Ecorite and made an appointment with Danielle to have an estimate. Uri was on time and took measurements then gave us a written estimate. Big wow for us since most of the time we are given a verbal one that keeps changing until a contract is written. We told Uri our issues and he made suggestions. He explained the products and how they use them. Closed and open cell materials and what walls they need to go on. Next was the actual installation. We had to make some changes and Danielle made sure the contract was updated and I approved the changes. She made sure everything ran smoothly. When the workers were on their way Danielle made sure I knew it. When the Kenneth and Lucas (the workers) arrived they were on time and greeted us then introduced themselves. They were friendly and pleasant and they made us feel comfortable with their knowledge of the product, and respectful of our home. They instructed us on how to reduce or eliminate any incontinence to the other tenants of the building. During the installation they worked non-stop, until they broke for lunch. After lunch break they were in a hurry to get back to work. There was no slowness here; if I had to use a word I would use quick€. After the job was done they cleaned up and took out the trash (which for us is a big thing). The entire job was a pleasant experience. I will be calling back for the next apartment. If not for Homeadvisor I would not have found such a good company. We are very happy."

"I found Score Construction on Home Advisor's website. I was looking for a contractor and needless to say I read reviews for many of the construction firms. Every review I read was terrific for Score Construction and because of that I called, met Janusz Z who is the Owner and was very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I started with 2 bathrooms that were necessary to do because of water damage. I was thrilled with the work done, the care of how it was done by the workers that were both professional and respectful. A year later a major renovation for my apartment was considered and I called Score Construction. Not only did the renovation to my apartment turn out fabulous and I'm happy every day that I wake up and see how beautiful it is, but they also did major work to the outside of our building - replacing the cornice, roof repair, pointing of bricks, structurally reinforcing all 16 windows which was no easy task for a 100 year old building, but they got it done. ALL this work again was done professionally and with the utmost of care and the knowledge of how to get the job done is their forte'. Every experience that I have had with Score Construction workers and owner, Janusz Z has been top notch. I recommend Score Construction HIGHLY. You will be extremely happy that you did so."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

It’s technically possible to install loose-fill cellulose insulation without a blower, but it’s much more time-consuming, tedious, and dangerous. You’ll need to wear the proper protective coverings to handle the cellulose after it’s been doused in boric acid; use a shovel when you can to transport the material from the bag into the wall cavity.

That said, if you purchase cellulose materials at a home improvement store, ask if they rent out blowers for free or at a discounted rate. In many cases, if you buy the material from the store, they’ll rent out the blower at no extra cost.

Structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards have the highest R-value of any insulation that contractors commonly use, with R-values reaching up to around 8.0. These types of insulation are best in extremely cold climates, but they’re generally preferred for new construction, as they can be challenging to retrofit. Blown-in and loose fill insulation provide the next best insulative value, provided the installation is done properly. It’s important to choose an insulation type that meets your needs based on climate, as maximizing R-value may not always be financially worthwhile if you live in a moderate climate.

Hanging a thick blanket over your windows will help to keep the heat inside, but only a little. Covering the glass will also prevent the sunlight from getting in, which might actually decrease the efficiency of your window overall. If you get to the point where you’re hanging blankets over your window to keep warm, call in an expert to seal around your windows to prevent warm air from escaping. They may also recommend replacing old windows that aren’t as insulative as newer window technology. Sealing a window isn’t terribly expensive and can make a big difference.

In some cases, yes, insulating an unheated garage can lead to mold and mildew. The issue with insulating a garage is that the interior will warm up and cool down more slowly than the exterior air, which can cause condensation inside the space. Where there is moisture, there is likely to be mold and mildew over time. Installing a vapor barrier can help avoid moisture and mildew problems in an insulated garage.

For a DIY solution to protect an outdoor faucet from freezing, you can craft a cover using spare rags, a durable plastic bag, and duct tape. However, be aware that this method may not be as effective as a store-bought cover. Fabric like rags or old towels can absorb water, which could freeze and cause problems. While a DIY cover can work as a temporary stopgap, a proper outdoor faucet cover is inexpensive (often $5 or less), easy to install, and readily available, making it the recommended long-term solution.
