"Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"JLC contracting went above and beyond to do my home addition for me. I couldn’t be more pleased with the way everything turned out. I found him here on Angie’s list. Wonderful work ethic, reliable, affordable, and these guys are so good at what they do. JLC contracting had the lowest quote out of everyone that I called and I am so pleased with the way my home addition turned out. These guys are truly the best!!"

"Loay Jabbar provided the information I needed quickly and clearly. I immediately signed up for full coverages for our two homes because of the discounts offered and because of the quality of service that Loay is saying and promising Choice Home Warranty provides to its customers. I have bad experiences with other home warranty companies so I am hoping I found the best company that would deliver the best service."

"service provider sent by American Home Shield was excellent. The only issue I have with home warranty services is that they do not send their repair companies out on the week-end, even in an emergency. The customer service personnel is less than enthusiastic or helpful."

"When you call American Home Solutions in Oswego, Mack Majeski will get back to you in a timely fashion. Mack came to our home and gave us a estimate for a new roof. He was professional and knowledgeable of all aspects of roofing and clearly listed all elements in his estimate. In the estimate he listed the manufacture warranty and guarantees his craftsmanship for 25 years. His price was very competitive. We asked for a certificate of Liability Insurance and he provided us with a copy before work started. A date was scheduled for the work to begin (weather permitting.) He started the work on the date he promised. A large crew began work and nearly completed the entire roof on the first day. Care was take to protect shrubbery around the house and everything discarded was taken away. The second day the crew came back and finished the roof. We asked Mack to do a separate side project and he obliged. If you call him about anything related to works he has done he will get back to you. I would recommend his company for a roofing project big or small."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.

Building a house without blueprints is not advised. It will prevent you from obtaining necessary building permits and meeting building codes and is likely to result in shoddy construction and unsafe living conditions. Detailed blueprints ensure that a house is built to exact specifications and is constructed safely and structurally stable.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

The average cost to build a modular home is around $270,000, and most modular homes total between $180,000 and $360,000. Of course, this price varies significantly by location, and the price tends to follow the cost of living in the area. There are quite a few other factors at play that can affect your pricing, including the following:

  • Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Site preparation, including land clearing and leveling

  • Type of foundation

  • Utility connections

  • Cost of building permits
