"I called and spoke with Heather who was quite knowledgeable and she was able to help us out as we were buying a new property. Chris surveyed the area and made recommendations for things we had not noticed. We had the estimate within 24 hours which was very reasonable and decided to hire them. They actually came the next day. They went beyond our expectations. The crew did an awesome job and cleaned up everything. I would highly recommend this company. If the roots are still alive, the dead tree will usually try to put out new shoots. That doesn’t mean the tree will survive or that the dead parts of a tree will come back to life. If parts of the tree have died and turned gray or rotten, nothing will bring them back to life and they need to be safely removed.

Sometimes, knowing when you need tree-trimming services is straightforward, and other times, you have to do some investigating. Some tell-tale signs that you should have your tree trimmed include:

  • A poorly-formed tree with unruly branches, which makes the tree appear odd-shaped. 

  • A tree with tall or large branches that interfere with power lines or your home’s exterior.

  • A tree that provides too much shade in the yard due to branch overgrowth.

Often, it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to handle the aftermath when a neighbor’s tree falls on their property. But if a tree has been obviously dead for a significant period of time and caused damage when it fell, a case can be made that the owner should have removed it, especially if the neighbor wrote you a letter about the tree or asked you to take it down. This can be grounds for a successful lawsuit in claims court and is a good reason to always pay attention to your trees and remove dead trees before they fall.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.
