"BP Alliance was very professional and insightful in doing what was required by the city in a lead abatement. Mr. Booker answered questions and concerns in ways I could understand a support. Having a personal meeting with all the major parties allowed for a smooth preparation, abatement and re-entry into the space. All the inspections, test and follow through with the city were arranged and done in a timely fashion."

"Fast and efficient. Called on Tuesday but Friday the job was done. The first came by, took measurements, a few pictures and gave me a sense of the cost. Decided to proceed and they were flexible with their pricing, which was really appreciated. The team came the next day, sealed the room, removed the old asbestos, left the air vents running overnight, and within 24 hours, the job was done. The guys I worked with (Del & El) were clear, professional and easy. A seamless process for a headache of an issue."

"Needed paint lead tested and removed. Was a pleasure to do business with. Very straightforward and honest. Gave an accurate quote (which was less than the other quotes I got) and completed the work quickly and left the area cleaner than before work was started. Would hire again if needed in the future."

"First rate all the way. They were prompt, explained the process to me fully, made me feel that they would handle the job without any problems and they did.On time and on budget. All the people were easy to deal with and I would recommend GCU with no reservations. Especially when it comes to something like removing asbestos which could turn into a nightmare if you deal with a company that doesn't know what they are doing. It's important to go with the right company and we certainly did! You can trust these people to do a superior job!"

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

No, a standard home inspection includes the basics and does not offer lead paint testing. Professional lead paint inspectors need specific licenses to perform these inspections, which not all home inspectors have. If you suspect lead paint in the home you are about to purchase, you will need to pay separately to have that done. If the findings come back positive, you may be able to negotiate with the buyer to cover the cost of the removal.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.

Government regulations such as the EPA and OSHA govern lead removal procedures to ensure health and environmental safety during and after abatement.

Lead toxicity comes from inhaling lead or consuming it. Before the 1980s, when the government banned lead from consumer use, it could be found in paint, plumbing, pipes, ceramics, and even gasoline. Lead paint is toxic for the same reason lead itself is toxic, which is why lead poisoning from paint presents the same as lead poisoning from water or food sources, with a slight increase in respiratory symptoms vs. digestive symptoms. Lead paint is most dangerous when it’s old and peeling, cracking, or otherwise disturbed. This increases the concentration in the air and, therefore, in breathable air.
