We had a skylight in our kitchen and when they took it out to do work around it they broke it. Even that was OK. We weren't sure we even wanted to keep the skylight, and that made our decision easier. While tearing off the old roof and throwing the old shingles in the dumpster they hit one of our outdoor garage lights and broke the glass. I wasn't even too upset about that and Jim gave us $30 to replace it. We were replacing our bathroom vent fan while we were at it, and Jim told me to go to the store and pick out a new one, he would take the price of it off of our bill. I picked out one I liked, not knowing it was smaller than the opening in the ceiling. Jim was going to hire someone (his buddy) to fix the skylight hole in our kitchen (since we no longer had a skylight) so he was going to have him patch up the hole in the bathroom ceiling to accommodate the new ceiling vent fan. As the job went on he got less and less professional. Talking to my husband in an unprofessional manner and such. One day when Jim wasn't there, his employees were trying to do something (I can't remember what it was for the life of me!) and they were trying to figure out how to do it....my husband ended up telling them how to do it. Later on, Jim didn't like that my husband had gotten involved in the work (so it seemed) and he and my husband ended up getting into more than one argument and my husband eventually told Jim that his son and employees could finish up the job but he did not want Jim on our property at all anymore. At the end of the job, the new bathroom vent fan (remember that part?) was installed, but the hose going up through the attic was secured with duct tape instead of a clap like it should. Part of our mold problem before this all started was because the vent hose had fallen off and it was just venting into the attic. My husband went to the store, bought a clamp and installed it. The guy that Jim had hired to fix the skylight and bathroom ceiling holes (I should do another Angie's List review on him!) was hard to get in touch with and to make a long story short, the job still is not finished 2 1/2 years later. I am going to end up finishing it myself. Our first winter with our new metal roof was h***. The snow slid off and piled 6 foot high (no joke), multiple times onto our deck in the back of the house (which caused a ton of other problems having all that weight on it...we are still in the process of "investigating" our cracked foundation which we believe is one problem from all the weight on the deck)! I had to shovel it all off many times (ever try shoveling THAT MUCH SNOW?!?!?) and in the front where it had all slid off it crushed and killed 2 of our bushes....Now, we are not roofers....you would have thought that the contractor would have suggested a snow bar??? Nope....not one time EVER did Jim Sweet mention anything about any snow bar or anything else to prevent all the snow from just sliding right off the roof. Fast forward to today (2 1/2 years later)...we are refinancing our house and the inspector came and looked up in the attic. Guess what....MOLD! So I call a local company and they came out 2 days ago to look at it. All the new boards on the front side that were just replaced are COVERED in mold! They did an air test and it came back that we have 3 different kids of mold growing up there...one of them being the nasty Stachybotrys (toxic black mold as you all may know it)! And WHY do we have all this mold in the attic when we just had a complete tear off done just 2 1/2 years ago?!?!?! THE BAFFLES (done by Jim Sweet when the new roof was put on) ON THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY!!!! They weren'nt even the correct size. The back of the house had the baffles on correctly, but the whole front were incorrect. and air could not flow up through them. Also half of the ridge vent WAS NOT CUT! Meaning that half of our roof was completely sealed off, preventing moisture and heat from escaping. The estimate for the mold remediation is $3400.00!!!! We have tried contacted Jim Sweet about this but so far it is not going well. He is avoiding our calls and not calling us back. I finally got him on the phone and he didn't want to hear any part of what I had to say. I even offered him to pay HALF of the repairs and he wanted me to get a document written up by a lawyer waiving ALL of his responsibility regarding our roof if he paid half. Umm.... NO WAY! If something else is wrong because of their work I'm not waiving that!! We ended up taking Jim Sweet to court for the full amount of the remediation. He actually had the nerve to say that the pictures and evidence that we presented "WERE NOT OUR ROOF"!!!!! I think I have better things to do with my time than go around taking pictures of other people's roofs and suing contractors! He told the judge that it was not our roof because he "does not use the baffles shown in the picture"! What nerve! HE wouldn't even know what his workers put up there, because HE NEVER WENT UP THERE HIMSELF! Not even to inspect their work when they were done! We won the court case (surprise, surprise). There was a rumor around town that he was telling people he wasn't going to pay us, but he ended up paying us within 30 days of the decision. I would not recommend Jim Sweet to my worst enemy! The whole process was an absolute nightmare! We had 6 wooden dining room chairs which were my grandmother's (so at least 60 years old, as she died at 90ish); wooden backs, seats worn through and what appeared to be kapok stuffing falling out here and there. Not particularly good quality chairs I don't think, but of sentimental value to me. We also had another, nonmatching wooden chair which I wanted reupholstered in a matching fabric. All had dings and scratches and occasional loose joints, and we had put sticky felt on the bottoms of the legs to avoid scratching our dining room floor. I telephoned to ask if he could do the job, phone was answered promptly and pleasantly by Mr. Hayden himself, appt made for us to bring chairs to him the following day (a Saturday in early June 2013). I did not have upholstery cloth picked out, he said fine to get it elsewhere (he could tell us how much needed after seeing chairs) or he had some we could look at. Address he wanted chairs brought to was different from that listed as Havenhouse Upholstery on Google (it appears on Google as Havenhouse all one word); appeared to be his home when we got there. He had a furniture-filled workshop in his back garage which is where we dropped off the chairs; he had about a dozen different rolls of upholstery cloth of different patterns/fabrics in the back of his minivan and we chose one we liked from that selection (I am perfectly happy with what we chose, but do not consider myself a picky shopper in matters of style -- durability and stain resistance more important as we have kids, and he recommended some of what he brought as more durable than other fabrics, we chose from those). Estimate was $575 for reseating/upholstery/stain guarding and $200 for repairs to chairs (he said refinishing was not recommended for chairs like these, and that was not our focus anyway), paid by check $250 deposit. He said it would take several weeks. Late June I called to check and let him know we would be unreachable for a week, he said he was almost done. As arranged he called me after we returned to arrange pickup, appt made for next day. He stated repairs had been more extensive than estimated and would be an extra $75 (I made no quibbles). Place to pick up was another different address. I had to call to confirm address twice (trouble entering into GPS) but each time Mr. Hayden answered right away himself and was immediately helpful. and quot;Haven House Upholsteryand quot; or similar not seen on signage of building at that address when I arrived so I phoned; he drove to where I was (took 1 minute) and led me back to a storage unit containing a workspace and lots of furniture including our chairs. He helped me load up and I paid remainder by check to him personally, receiving receipt with both Haven House Upholstery and his name at the top which lays out work done nicely but does not include tax line (I have to assume sales tax was included in the price). Quality of the work: seats look great, very comfortable to sit on with good firm/soft balance for both me (short and fat) and husband (tall and thin), fabric fits tightly and is beautifully folded over corners and evenly trimmed underneath, a lot better than the original seats even before they wore through. The fabric we chose had a herringbone pattern which would show minor faults in alignment easily and this was perfectly aligned on each chair. Wood had greatly diminished ding/scratch appearance, still present (as expected) but have to look a lot harder to find them. Joints very stable now, no leaked glue visible (if he used glue; I didn't ask how he made repairs). Unasked, he had replaced the sticky felt pads under each chairleg with the same color and thickness we had used. Overall, I am very pleased with the work quality. Timing and what would and could not be done was all accurately explained in words I could understand. Cost was a bit more than original estimate but I believe the chairs deserved this as he hadn't tested the joints a lot before making his estimate, and this is not a visible problem. I had expected more of a storefront experience given the name and quot;Havenhouse Upholsteryand quot; but reaching and dealing with Mr. Hayden was easy at all times. My only concern is the lack of evidence of having paid sales tax on the receipt, which I did not notice until I got home. I would use him again if needed; he seems to be a real craftsman who cares about quality and that is well worth putting up with a slightly less-than-slick business demeanor. Once in their shop, we assumed that they would inspect and access the necessary work to repair the appliances. They just started working on them without providing any time or cost estimate or even to tell us what was wrong. After about a week, I was told that the 2-drawer refrigerator was repaired but they were still working on the ice maker. I had asked if they could at least deliver the refrigerator and was told that they can not (or would not) deliver them separately. As months went on, I would call with regular frequency to find out the status only to be told that someone would call me back later. Of the two dozen times I called over the almost 6 months they had the appliances, only 2 phone calls were ever returned. Eventually, I called one Friday at 4:30 p.m. and got an answering machine telling me that they were closed and their hours were Monday through Friday, 8-5. I left a scathing message saying that I was fed up with the lack of returned phone calls and information and insisted that someone call me back the following Monday. As expected, Monday came and went without a phone call. Finally on Tuesday, someone called me to tell me that they appliances were fixed and ready to be installed and that someone would call me Wednesday or Thursday to set up a time to install them as well as give me a cost. As expected, no phone call was ever received. We didn't know when they were going to arrive on Friday as they never called to let us know and after re-installing all the appliances, demanded to be paid on the spot for an amount we had no idea what was going to be. Luckily we had the money to do so, but if you don't happen to have a spare couple thousand dollars in your account when they show up, you might be in trouble. Absolutely horrible experience and torture to deal with."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ny/hudson/ackermans-appliance-reviews-2192563.htm"},"position":10}]}

FAQs for gas fireplace repair projects in Elba, NY
Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
The cost to install a fireplace is $2,440 on average. This cost can range from $150 to $8,000 or more, depending on the type of fireplace, the materials used, and the size.
Electric fireplaces cost around $1,000 to install, and mostly only require wiring installation. Installing a wood fireplace from scratch could cost upwards of $10,000, depending on the foundation needed to support the weight of the fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces can cost between $2,500 and $10,000.

If you add a hearth to your fireplace, you can expect to pay between $3 and $200per square foot. However, if you're refacing your fireplace, the price tag will depend on your chosen materials. If choosing tile, you can pay between $1 and $50per square foot, depending on the design. Stone is a more expensive material, averaging between $60 and $70 per square foot.
Yes, it can be worth installing a gas fireplace, depending on your home heating needs. The cost to install a gas fireplace can be much lower than the cost to install a comparable wood-burning fireplace. The convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch and turning it off just as quickly makes a gas fireplace a big time saver over starting and maintaining a wood-fueled fire. A gas fireplace also does not require ash cleanup or frequent chimney cleaning to remove creosote and other buildup that can lead to chimney fires. Gas fireplaces burn and heat much more cleanly than wood fireplaces.
A gas fireplace insert costs about $3,600 to install, on average. The cost to install a gas log insert ranges from about $700 to $6,500, depending on the size, type of insert, how it works, and heating needs. Gas fireplaces need electrical and gas lines installed properly, so hiring a pro is recommended rather than trying to DIY installation.
