We had a skylight in our kitchen and when they took it out to do work around it they broke it. Even that was OK. We weren't sure we even wanted to keep the skylight, and that made our decision easier. While tearing off the old roof and throwing the old shingles in the dumpster they hit one of our outdoor garage lights and broke the glass. I wasn't even too upset about that and Jim gave us $30 to replace it. We were replacing our bathroom vent fan while we were at it, and Jim told me to go to the store and pick out a new one, he would take the price of it off of our bill. I picked out one I liked, not knowing it was smaller than the opening in the ceiling. Jim was going to hire someone (his buddy) to fix the skylight hole in our kitchen (since we no longer had a skylight) so he was going to have him patch up the hole in the bathroom ceiling to accommodate the new ceiling vent fan. As the job went on he got less and less professional. Talking to my husband in an unprofessional manner and such. One day when Jim wasn't there, his employees were trying to do something (I can't remember what it was for the life of me!) and they were trying to figure out how to do it....my husband ended up telling them how to do it. Later on, Jim didn't like that my husband had gotten involved in the work (so it seemed) and he and my husband ended up getting into more than one argument and my husband eventually told Jim that his son and employees could finish up the job but he did not want Jim on our property at all anymore. At the end of the job, the new bathroom vent fan (remember that part?) was installed, but the hose going up through the attic was secured with duct tape instead of a clap like it should. Part of our mold problem before this all started was because the vent hose had fallen off and it was just venting into the attic. My husband went to the store, bought a clamp and installed it. The guy that Jim had hired to fix the skylight and bathroom ceiling holes (I should do another Angie's List review on him!) was hard to get in touch with and to make a long story short, the job still is not finished 2 1/2 years later. I am going to end up finishing it myself. Our first winter with our new metal roof was h***. The snow slid off and piled 6 foot high (no joke), multiple times onto our deck in the back of the house (which caused a ton of other problems having all that weight on it...we are still in the process of "investigating" our cracked foundation which we believe is one problem from all the weight on the deck)! I had to shovel it all off many times (ever try shoveling THAT MUCH SNOW?!?!?) and in the front where it had all slid off it crushed and killed 2 of our bushes....Now, we are not roofers....you would have thought that the contractor would have suggested a snow bar??? Nope....not one time EVER did Jim Sweet mention anything about any snow bar or anything else to prevent all the snow from just sliding right off the roof. Fast forward to today (2 1/2 years later)...we are refinancing our house and the inspector came and looked up in the attic. Guess what....MOLD! So I call a local company and they came out 2 days ago to look at it. All the new boards on the front side that were just replaced are COVERED in mold! They did an air test and it came back that we have 3 different kids of mold growing up there...one of them being the nasty Stachybotrys (toxic black mold as you all may know it)! And WHY do we have all this mold in the attic when we just had a complete tear off done just 2 1/2 years ago?!?!?! THE BAFFLES (done by Jim Sweet when the new roof was put on) ON THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY!!!! They weren'nt even the correct size. The back of the house had the baffles on correctly, but the whole front were incorrect. and air could not flow up through them. Also half of the ridge vent WAS NOT CUT! Meaning that half of our roof was completely sealed off, preventing moisture and heat from escaping. The estimate for the mold remediation is $3400.00!!!! We have tried contacted Jim Sweet about this but so far it is not going well. He is avoiding our calls and not calling us back. I finally got him on the phone and he didn't want to hear any part of what I had to say. I even offered him to pay HALF of the repairs and he wanted me to get a document written up by a lawyer waiving ALL of his responsibility regarding our roof if he paid half. Umm.... NO WAY! If something else is wrong because of their work I'm not waiving that!! We ended up taking Jim Sweet to court for the full amount of the remediation. He actually had the nerve to say that the pictures and evidence that we presented "WERE NOT OUR ROOF"!!!!! I think I have better things to do with my time than go around taking pictures of other people's roofs and suing contractors! He told the judge that it was not our roof because he "does not use the baffles shown in the picture"! What nerve! HE wouldn't even know what his workers put up there, because HE NEVER WENT UP THERE HIMSELF! Not even to inspect their work when they were done! We won the court case (surprise, surprise). There was a rumor around town that he was telling people he wasn't going to pay us, but he ended up paying us within 30 days of the decision. I would not recommend Jim Sweet to my worst enemy! The whole process was an absolute nightmare! We had seen a few other contractors besides this company and are very pleased we chose to hire Mark (owner). He didn't give alot of "bs" as a couple other contractors did. Very genuine person. Very knowledgeable, thorough and easy to work with. The crew was great. All were very friendly. They left the whole project area neat and clean. They power washed our driveway ! They even chased down my little dog and rescued him when i was out on errands one day and he decided to get thru the plastic they'd put up around the basement doorway and proceed to run across the street. I could've come home to a tragedy but they saved his life. Busy road sometimes, with trucks and speeders. The cost was not the very cheapest but certainly not the most expensive. Money well spent. We'd hire them again and definitely recommend them whole heartedly. I wasn't home while the work was being done and had some questions about the finished product. Both of the "Cousins" came out the following Saturday to explain what they had done and address any concerns I had. I work as an architect and deal with contractors every day. Ken and his crew were hired to refinish and add trim to our 100-year-old floor. Ken was helpful in explaining our options as we were contemplating replacing, but he assured us we would like the finished product and the trim would look original and he met our expectations and some. He was on...

It started out OK. We were happy with the price, which was middle of the road...not the cheapest but not the most expensive. They showed up on time. Jim didn't actually do any of the work himself, only his employees. We had a skylight in our kitchen and when they took it out to do work...

FAQs for concrete finishing projects in Elba, NY
Concrete repair costs range anywhere from about $0.10 to $0.15 per linear foot to fill minor cracks, to about $6 to $14 per square foot to replace damaged concrete slabs. Repair costs vary widely depending on the size and type of work needed. For example, replacing 100 square feet of driveway will cost between $600 to $1,400, on average.
The average cost of stamped concrete is around $12 per square foot, but you might pay anywhere from $8 to $28 per square foot. The average 12-foot by 12-foot patio costs $1,730 on average. Your exact pricing will depend on the patio’s square footage, the condition of the area where you want to pour the concrete, the desired stamp pattern, concrete coloring, concrete grade, and local labor prices. Don’t forget to budget for extra costs like land preparation and additional concrete fortifications if necessary.
Depending on the cost to repair your driveway, it may be more cost effective to tear out and replace it with a new concrete driveway. The cost to repave a driveway ranges between $1,400 and $12,100, including removal of the old concrete. Contact a reputable concrete contractor for advice and an estimate. They may have a good reason for going with repairs or replacement after assessing your driveway. You may also have the option to resurface your driveway or pave over it without taking out the existing one.
It’s possible to create stamped concrete yourself, but we don’t recommend it and it’s often not cost-effective. It’s easy to mess up the pattern of a stamped concrete patio or walkway, leaving you with an unsightly home exterior rather than the elegant solution you wanted. Any mistakes made during the ground leveling and concrete pouring process will also increase the risk of cracks forming on your concrete. Additionally, buying enough stamps to get the pattern in before your concrete cures can cost as much as hiring a professional to do the work for you.
Concrete contractors typically charge anywhere from $6 to $14 per square foot. Cost factors include job size, site prep, base material, accessibility, your location, concrete finish, and concrete thickness. Removal of existing concrete, asphalt, deck, pavers, and grass will cost anywhere from $1 to $6 per square foot. Homeowners can often save money by removing and disposing of existing pavers, decks, and grass. Breaking up and hauling away concrete and asphalt is difficult and time-consuming without the proper equipment and may be worth having the pros do that work.
