"I needed a special award statue repaired Matt took the time to research my needs. He offered to pick up the Emmy in Queens. In doing his research he discovered he by the Emmy Society that it can’t be repaired and must be replaced. He called me with this information and told me where to find the details on replacement. I wouldn’t have thought about getting replace. I can’t thank Matt enough for his help.We are now working with the Academy of Arts and Sciences on replacing the statue.Thiugh he didn’t do the job he was Concern to repair and pick the award up. Anyone who makes this kind of effort deserves a rave review. He has got me out of bad situation. Thank you, Thank you Matt. Support a business that cares and works for you. One last thing I found him by luck, I have never met him.purely in phone conversations. Hal Berkowitz"

Small jobs welcome

"Charlie and Son are outstanding. My job took some extra effort and a bit of creativity and they exceeded my expectations by far. Very reasonably priced, very professional, both are trustworthy gentlemen. The work looks great and I think they may have been hired by a couple of neighbors who were impressed with the work they were completing at my home. They installed a vintage fence and gate in keeping with an existing and different yet different fence on a Brooklyn brownstone. It looks amazing, completely seamless and I couldn't be happier. Their welding skills and iron work is second to none. I'd rate them higher than 10 of 10 if I could.. I highly recommend them."

"We were extremely happy with the work performed by H&M. Moises, Hector and crew were courteous and did whatever needed to please us. They did most of the renovation in our condo......painting, installation of bathroom cabinets, sink, installed tile floor, etc. They also installed vinyl flooring in our kitchen, living and dining rooms. They had a plumber replace our heating baseboard, I would highly recommend H&M if you want excellent work done!!"

Welding questions, answered by experts

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.

Your typical household tools will not cut a metal pipe. To cut a metal pipe, you’d need more specialized tools like a pipe cutter or circular saw. Do not attempt to use these tools without taking proper safety precautions and wearing safety gear. It’s usually safer to let a pro cut a metal pipe, especially if you’re not confident in your skills with a heavy-duty saw.

While a high-speed circular saw will cut through metal, and even cut through multiple sheets at once, the fast-spinning saw blades create a lot of heat. This heat can damage paint and other protective coatings, leading to serious problems like rust over time. The cost to paint a metal roof again to avoid this damage is typically an additional $0.50 to $1 per square foot.

The best thing to cut metal pipe is a durable pipe cutter that is made for metal. You may want to measure the diameter of the pipes before purchasing a pipe cutter to ensure it will be able to cut your metal pipes. Opt for a heavy-duty option to cut through metal like steel or cast iron.

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500
