"AVI did a great job removing the asbestos. They were very clean. A problem created was that one of the steam pipes which had the asbestos wrapping removed, opened at a seam and began to leak water very regularly. They did show this to me but said the leak was already there. This would not be true or I would have had water on my floor and stains on the wrapping prior to the removal. There is a lot of grinding that is done to remove the asbestos from the pipe surface. This was likely the cause of this leak. I had to have the pipe changed at another cost to me of $700. They did not take any responsibility for the leak. That is why I would hesitate to recommend them."

"JMAQ did a great job of lead paint abatement in my apartment today! This team of experienced workers was on time, and worked diligently all day correcting the problems. I really admire their work ethic. Additionally, they were courteous and polite, explaining everything they were doing. My apartment, which I am selling, had had 4 violations since 2005 which I only found out about last week. The violations were discovered by the buyers' lawyer. No one had ever mentioned these violations to me in the 12 years I have lived here. I was in a panic to get the violations corrected. I had contacted a few companies, but I was not impressed. One company was a "no show" two different days, after I had waited for them for 4 hours one day, and 6 hours another day. Another company told me on the phone the lead paint abatement process would take one or two months.I was very frustrated. Then I looked at the Home Advisors website, and found JMAQ. I spoke to Sasha of JMAQ on the phone, and I knew from the way she spoke that she was knowledgeable about the lead paint removal process, and that Customer Service was important to JMAQ. Also, she said they would certainly be on time for all appointments.She said they could facilitate the job and get to it right away knowing I was in a bind about getting the apartment sold. The all-important Closing was being held up by the lead paint problem, and I was running out of money with various home-selling costs. She found my apartment violations quickly on the NY HPD website, and gave me a a very good and fair estimate on the phone. Also, she explained that her father, Jose, had had years of experience with lead paint abatement violations. Sasha, Jose, and Victor, Sasha's son, came over to my home the very next day, and Jose checked out the problems. I was impressed by their professional attitude. JMAQ corrected all violations today, only taking a break for lunch. These are hard-working people! The next step will be that they will send an examiner over to take scientific "wipes" of the corrected areas. These wipes will be taken to a lab for examination. After this, my apartment will receive a certificate that the lead paint has been removed. Then, I will take the signed affadavit to HPD so they can officially sign off on it, and the violations will be removed. The estimated total time for all this will be a week, depending on which day the technician can come and do the "wipes". I am looking forward to working with Sasha and Jose as they competently get me through this confusing and difficult time in my apartment selling. I will write another review for this excellent company when we get to the end of the whole process. "Vernon did an inspection for lead and asbestos on a home we are purchasing in Kingston that we are planning to renovate extensively and live in with two small children. Both lead and asbestos posed risks that could be dealbreakers for us depending on exact specifics of location and extent. My husband is an architect who has to deal with these kinds of inspections routinely while rehabbing old buildings. We were super crunched for time, meeting with multiple inspectors and contractors at the home in a single day. We needed someone who could just do the inspection thoughtfully and make decisions about what was necessary vs. unnecessary without us having to micromanage or weigh in on every sample. He really thought through what was necessary and what would give us inconclusive information, so he saved us a little money by only doing readings that were actionable. His quick turnaround and methodically documentation helped us meet the deadline to submit the report to the sellers. It gives us great leverage with this info to negotiate and come to a reasonable division of financial responsibility for the repair work necessary to make this home safe for future occupants during the final weeks before closing. This is saving us a huge potential liability and surprise bill down the line. This is a seller’s market and one of the top ways buyers are getting the short end of the stick is by having to assume risks that sellers push them to abandon inspecting with the threat of just going with another bid.
