"Ralph is an awesome handyman He came for an estimate and took time out of his day to complete the job on the spot!! The project was certainly way overdue, but we did not expect it to be done immediately. Ralph did not want to leave the sink in th1e condition it was, so he jumped right on it and did an amazing job! I can't thank him enough!"

"My home, a raised ranch, had the original, almost 50 yrs old siding. it was dated, wearing out, the front pillars are wood - they were rotting and peeling as were the window and door trim. My Elite Home Pros was the first company I called, based on the reviews. Paul returned my call the next day, we made an appointment and he arrived , on time!. We discussed what I wanted, he pointed out some problems and offered suggestions. The estimate was under what I expected. I had vinyl siding replaced, soffits, fascia ( hope I spelled those right), widows and pillars wrapped, new patio door, gutters , some interior repair. I was shown many options of materials- colors, grades. I chose the Rye color for siding. Job started on time, people were excellent. Wasnt asked for extra money during the project. Paul stopped over intermittently to check on things and asked if i was happy. Cant recommend highly enough."

"Mr. Bodo at 1st Choice General Contracting was very helpful in getting the deck and the siding ready for pressure washing. He move things so that his work would be properly done. After completion, he walked around with me so that I could see and discuss the overall work. I definitely will call him for services again."

Siding FAQs, answered by experts

You should plan to stain or refinish your home's cedar siding every three to seven years to maintain its appearance and provide maximum protection, though some estimates suggest a range of four to six years. The exact frequency depends on several factors, including your local climate, exposure to severe weather like direct sunlight, rain, and wind, the quality of the initial stain application, the type of stain used, and the overall condition and quality of the wood.

For homes in harsh climates with high humidity and significant sun exposure, you should plan on staining as often as every three years, while those in milder locations may only need to do so every seven years. For the longest-lasting protection in particularly harsh climates, consider using an opaque stain.

If you are looking for a lower-maintenance alternative, you might consider vinyl or aluminum siding. While the initial installation cost can be higher, they do not require as much upkeep and can offer more value over time, especially in areas with excessive rainfall or high humidity.

Yes, insulated vinyl siding increases the R-value of your home. Depending on the quality and brand of the insulated vinyl, you can get an R-value that is up to 5 times greater than traditional vinyl siding. This can be fantastic for homeowners who are trying to lower their utility costs.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.

Pressure washing is, in fact, one of the few cleaning methods that can damage your fiber cement siding. Though durable, the material cannot withstand high water pressure. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use the appropriate cleaning solution when cleaning If you are dealing with stubborn stains, use a scrub or metal-bristle brush, or leave it to a professional.

Wood clapboard siding needs frequent sealing to keep it in top condition—likely every two to three years. A sealant helps protect it from both moisture and sunlight damage. Your weather and climate will affect how often you need to seal the siding, but the pros recommend sealing it every couple of years. More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.
