"Responded quickly. Arrived on time for appt. He did brick paving and matched existing design. He made a safe and attractive walkway. He also created a concrete sidewalk area. He and his worker cleaned up after the work was done. In addition, Malik is a very pleasant and patient man. I will hire him again for future work."

"Just wrapped up a bathroom renovation project with Mario Allauca and his team. Full demo, new framing, walls, waterproofing, tiling, shower door, and lighting all setup in 10 working days. The team did an outstanding job and was very responsive to last moment changes and my suggestions and directions. I had a bunch of special materials to work with and the job was done to my full satisfaction. Mario is a great guy to work with and he was always onsite. I highly recommend their services - there isn't a job they can't do, based on what I've seen!"

"Great company to work with! Honest, efficient, fair price, and overall good people. Hired them to help repair a customers driveway from some machine damage. Met the needs for both sides, win-win all around and the quality of work was great!"

Paving Services FAQs, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

Decomposed granite and caliche can both harden into a solid surface using a plate compactor. However, due to decomposed granite’s fine particles, it’s not suitable for driveway surfaces. Some homeowners use pea gravel mixed with a gravel-binding resin to bind the loose stones and create a solid surface that won’t shift like loose gravel.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.
