"I'll start by saying that we indeed intend to engage Rinaldo again as he did an excellent job. The only con was that he missed our originally scheduled start date; we had to call and remind him and by then he could not accomplish the job for when we had hoped to have it done. However once he got going the experience was great--especially as it included an error, as I will explain. Rinaldo obtained all the necessary materials properly, including finding an excellent alternative for a shade/texture no longer available. He engaged his carpenter sub to create wainscoting according to our exact design. The work was excellent and the painting perfect. We then ran into trouble with metallic stripes on the wall above--we had requested a uniform translucent ribbon-like effect and he applied a textured version. There were also areas of imperfection that the texture highlighted. I explained that as our instructions were precise, he would need either to make it work or redo (this would have been a huge amount of extra effort). He redid it using the pattern he applied and the result was actually much better than what we had aimed for, And, it was perfectly precise with no flaws--difficult to do. It hits the eye luxuriously. This provided a much better and real-world process by which to judge a contractor--since nothing ever goes perfectly. I have hired many other painters over the years including ones in FFC and NYC--Rinaldo did the best job of any and handled this glitch with exceptional professionalism.

"My wife and I DO NOT use anyone who is not on Angie's List so we understand the importance of having accurate, fair reviews. We found Cary on Angie's List with overall great feedback on jobs he had done so we called him in for an estimate. Despite being very busy, he made the time to come over on a Saturday morning. He had previously dropped by and assessed the damage from the outside but needed to see it from the inside to ensure he could judge it accurately. After 15 minutes, our fears were realized and he said he would need to remove the cedar impression siding and remove the roof and replace it with a different system because the pitch wasn't steep enough. 
Within 48 hours, he provided a quote for his crew to come out and get the work done in a single day which was completely reasonable. He completed the work (guaranteed) as promised and left the site immaculate. He took pictures of the issue, of job progress and of the completed job. He mentioned he went around and filled some other issues he noticed while he was waiting for his crew to wrap up, no charge at all. He then discounted the quoted, agreed price 5% for angie's list deal I wasn't even aware of. Have you ever heard of a contractor accept less than an agreed price? Me neither.
Angie's List is a great resource for people to share experiences. I think the contractors who are honest and reasonable should be applauded too. We have been on the receiving end of some really lousy service so this was a new experience having someone do what they promised to do. Cary and his crew are the best in Monmouth County. We already have him pricing out finishing a storage space and will use him to build our deck in the spring. I cannot recommend Cary enough and you can reach me through Cary if you'd like to see his work firsthand.
