"I needed to have a deadbolt installed and interviewed several locksmiths. Not only did Aaron quote the best price, he seemed to be the most knowledgeable. When I decided to hire him, he came the same day I called, arrived on time, and did an excellent job. Since then, two of my neighbors had Aaron install locks for them. The upshot is that all of us are very pleased with the quality of his workmanship and professionalism, and highly recommend him."

"After an exhausting day at work, coming home, realized I was locked out of my apt. Probably the worst emotional experience that a human being can go through. I called Avi and he was extremely prompt, showed up with a smile and he was finished under 10 minutes. Thank you Quick Locksmith for showing up and thank you for your great customer service! Will recommend to anyone."

"Antoine from Veteran Mobile Locksmith was a pleasure to deal with. He contacted me quickly and made an extra effort to help us on a Saturday night. He was very courteous throughout. He clearly knew what he was doing. With my 10 year old watching over his shoulder he was very nice to her as well. The rate was great and his work was better. I definitely recommend using Antoine!"

"I called Joe earlier this week. We discussed the scope of work that we were looking for. He gave us an estimate/quote. He had no problem coming on a Saturday to provide the service. Joe arrived on time and ready to get to work. He set up in no time and explained what he was doing and answered any questions right in stride. When he left, we couldn't tell he was even there because he left no trace. The service came out exactly as we had hoped for the price was spot on the estimate/quote on the phone. We will definitely look to Joe at All Access for any future locksmith needs and will be quick to recommend him to friends and family."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Typically, it can take around 15 minutes to rekey a lock. The time depends on the type of lock and how skilled you are at rekeying. The first time you rekey a lock, it may take a little longer. Once you get the hang of the process, it will move along much more quickly.

Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.

Many insurance providers offer policy discounts when adding security features to your home. The best way to find out if new locks will reduce your premium is to simply ask your agent.

Yes, you should change the locks as soon as you can after completing the purchase of a house. This is a matter of privacy and security, as you have no idea how many copies of the keys the previous owner made. You can change the locks yourself or hire a pro to replace or rekey the lock, which costs $50 to $100.
