"I recently hired Upstate Home Repairs for a variety of tasks around my home, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results! From start to finish, he was professional, efficient, and incredibly detail-oriented. Every job, whether big or small, was completed perfectly, and the quality of the work was outstanding. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. Steve was friendly, approachable, and took the time to explain everything thoroughly, answering all of my questions. It was clear that he takes pride in the work and values customer satisfaction. I truly appreciate how punctual and reliable Steve was throughout the process. It’s rare to find someone who not only does great work but also provides such a positive, stress-free experience. I highly recommend Upstate Home Repairs for anyone looking for top-notch service and quality craftsmanship. Will definitely be calling again for future projects!"

"Pat the Handyman is the real deal! He’s very knowledgeable, friendly, & can tackle most household issues. He quickly assessed my bathroom faucet leak under the sink, (We had 2 leak spots!) & repaired them. He unclogged my tub too. I will definitely use Pat again when needed. I highly recommend him."

"i was thoroughly satisfied with the recent exterior painting done on my house by Alden Painting. John Alden and his son John Jr are consummate professionals. They appeared on time, worked diligently while they were on the job and the result of their labors is clearly evident i have already had numerous comments from my neighbors on their work. All surfaces that needed to be painted were prepped very carefully and power washed sanded and patched where necessary. Paint application which involved a 3 color pallette was thorogh and accurately done and any necessary cleanup was done properly and completely. They were personable and open to suggestions and a joy to work with. I clearly recommend them to anybody looking for their services and they will be my first choice for any other painting projects i have coming up."

"We thought we were just getting our bathroom remodeled but wound up renovating our entire upstairs. Tony is amazing and patient with people who dont know how to put a room together. His crew is dependable, polite and very respectful. They clean up everything as they go along. This is our 2nd time using Tony to do work in our home (they did another bathroom for us in oct 2019) I wish we had found them sooner, but they will be our go to for all of our home projects in the future. Project: gut 3/4 bathroom, remove all rugs, remove popcorn ceilings in bathroom, bedroom & hall. Wood floors installed in stairwell, hall, bed and bathroom, new vanity, mirror, shower, etc. Paint all of 2nd floor, install new lights, install new smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors."

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

You don’t necessarily have to remove all the old paint before repainting your deck, but it’s best to remove as much as possible to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish. Prioritize scraping off loose, peeling, or flaking paint, and sand down rough areas to create a smooth surface for the new paint to bond with.

Professional lead-paint abatement companies use a variety of methods to remove lead-based paint, depending on each particular situation. Some of the most common methods include:

  • Total removal: $8–$17 per square foot

  • Demolition and replacement: $1,000–$15,000 per project

  • Encapsulation: $4 per square foot

  • Enclosure: $10 per square foot

  • Chemical stripping: $10–$17 per square foot

You can find chemical and naturally derived paint thinners to remove paint without as much sanding. A heat gun or pressure washer can also remove paint from large areas. However, sanding is often the best way to remove the final bits of paint that remain on the surface.

To fix bubbling paint, scrape away any loose or blistered areas using a putty knife. Lightly sand the surface to smooth out rough edges and create a level finish. Clean the area thoroughly to remove dust, dirt, and any residue. Once the surface is clean and dry, apply a quality primer suited to the material you're painting. Finally, repaint the area, making sure to work in proper temperature and humidity conditions to prevent new bubbles from forming.

Some methods of removing paint from metal that use physical force, like scraping or grinding, may damage the metal. Other methods like chemical strippers or acids are unlikely to damage the metal underneath, but take care using any method to strip paint to minimize the chance of damage.
